How helpful Rachel was during our stay , she went above & beyond. Sourcing gluten free snacks for my daughter and helping us locate a dr for her when needed.

“Super comfortable & luxurious ! Totally value for money.”
This is an exceptional property and & a super stay experience. Honestly I really couldn't find anything to complain or suggest for improvement. The house is beautiful in every sense, while architecturally gives the old Japanese feel however has every modern amenities completely matching / exceeding the description on the site. The host & owner Rachel was extremely warm, friendly & super responsive, all the property details sent in advance including in Japanese for the taxi driver to ensure we do not have any trouble reaching the property. Greeted us upon arrival gave a complete house tour & ensured we had everything. The kitchen to our surprise was way more stacked with all the basic things and even lots of snacks, juices etc. This was way too pleasant and one of experience from all the other places we stayed in Japan. While we stayed for 2 nights, but certainly wished if we could have stayed more. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a comfortable & value for money stay in Kyoto.

“Imakumano Terrace - was more than just a place to rest — it was a truly heartwarming experience”
A Hidden Gem in Kyoto – Where Hospitality Feels Like Home Staying at Imakumano Terrace - Mokubei An was more than just a place to rest — it was a truly heartwarming experience that made our time in Kyoto unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine kindness and care. Rachel, the host, went above and beyond to ensure we felt not just comfortable, but at home. Thoughtful touches like local snacks, PG tips Tea, illy coffee and personalized recommendations for nearby temples and eateries instantly made this stay feel special. Her attentiveness was sincere and never intrusive — the kind of warmth that’s rare and incredibly appreciated when traveling far from home. The location is equally outstanding. Tucked away in a quiet, historic area famous for Kyoto pottery. The home is just a short stroll from some of Kyoto’s most iconic sites and we were able to hike to Fushimi Inari Shrine via Unryu-in Temple where we had tea and Mochi en route. This felt special, a less travelled route, like we unlocked a cheat code to avoid the crowds, albiet until we reached the observation area of Fushimi Inari Shrine. The home itself is a beautiful blend of traditional Kyoto architecture and modern comfort. Tatami rooms, wooden beams, a deep soaking tub — all designed with elegance and authenticity, yet equipped with everything you need (and then some). If you’re looking for a stay that’s both luxurious and heartfelt, where every detail reflects care and cultural richness, Imakumano Terrace - Mokubei An is the one.

“We had a wonderful 2 nights at the gorgeous Imakumano Terrace!”
Imakumano terrace is a hidden gem in the old pottery district of Kyoto, convenient to so many temples and shrines and just a 10 minute walk to local buses with access to Gion, Kyoto Station, and much of the city. It exceeded our expectations in every way - the attention to detail in this beautifully restored machiya is amazing and made for a very comfortable and homelike base from which to explore the city. We so appreciated Rachel and Ryoko's answers to our questions and communication ahead of our stay with recommendations for restaurants and a cycling tour as well as suggestions for how to spend New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. We also appreciated the welcome basket of snacks, pastries, fresh fruit, eggs and drinks in the fridge - sufficient for late night snacks as well as breakfast both days of our stay. The futons in the unit we stayed in (mokubei) are amazingly comfortable, and we had the best nights' sleep and enjoyed coming back to our home away from home each afternoon. We loved exploring the local temples and shrines within walking distance, and we also appreciated Rachel's help with ordering taxis when we needed to get across town quickly for a tour and when we returned to Kyoto Station (though the bus is convenient from the station, too, if you're traveling light like we did). We felt very well taken care of throughout our stay and we will definitely be visiting again! We will also be recommending this hidden gem to all our friends who are planning their trips to Japan. Thank you, Rachel, for a wondeful stay in your beautiful city. We admire what you're doing in your neighbourhood to restore these historic properties, and we can't wait to come back!

“An amazing place that goes above and beyond!”
We have travelled the world a lot as a couple and more recently with a baby. However, what we have experienced at Imakumano Terrace goes above and beyond! We got a very warm welcome and a jaw dropping experience when we went for the house tour…! The place is gorgeous - as you can see on the pictures - a very traditional japanese place but all very new and decorated with style and taste plus the nice private garden. We got surprised with a filled up fridge with food, drinks etc., basically everything you need for a couple days with no need for groceries. Our request for a baby cod was nicely thought through with a kids tatami in addition to the cod as well as selected toys and books to make our daughter feel home as well.

“We had a beautiful stay here for 3 nights. Gorgeous accommodation and hospitality.”
We had a great stay here for 3 nights. The location is a little out of town, but we liked the quieter location. Easy walk to the bus or train. Rachael was an excellent host - very helpful with planning and reservations. She bought us beautiful cakes from Uji when I mentioned my sons loved matcha. Above and beyond hospitality with great amenities, drinks, thoughtful snacks included. I would highly recommend staying here.

“Perfect Kyoto family stay”
Loved everything about our stay at Imakumano Terrace. Our family of five had the most amazing stay - didn't want to leave! Perfect if you want to experience a traditional townhouse like a local (except absolutely everything you could want for is included). So many special touches throughout stay - from breakfast goods and cold beers on first day, to some snacks for our travels and taxi- and the best local tips for eating out, which all proved great. Thank you so much:)

“Blissful stay at Imakumano Terrace!”
Very sweet, generous and helpful owner who made sure that our stay in Kyoto was as exceptional as it could possibly be! The appartement is spacious and well equipped. Everything is well thought out. Additional bonuses are the washing machine and the dryer! This comes in handy when your travelling for more than a week around Japan 😅. The appartement is also exceptionally well located. Every major tourist attraction is around a 15min walk from the appartement or 15-30min by car. The appartement truly felt like a small home thanks to Rachel’s work!

Place was very well equipped, clean and safe. Very nice touches such as providing drinks and snacks. When we left, it was pouring with rain but the host was very kind to let us take 2 umbrellas along - we would been drenched otherwise.

“A really special house”
Our little family had a wonderful stay in Imakumano Terrace. The house felt really traditional but with super modern touches, it has been beautifully renovated. The house had been set up to accomodate all the needs of our toddler, including toys, books, a cot, baby soap/shampoo etc. these little things really made it feel like home and were above any expectations we had! Rachel helped us book taxis and was able to give great advice on where to eat/what to do in Kyoto. This is a great choice of accomodation if you want an authentic local experience in a Japanese house and a break from bland hotels. Highly recommend for those travelling with a toddler too - the TV has English Netflix/Disney too which was a godsend to entertain our tired toddler at the end of a long day sightseeing.
