An outstanding stay on every level. Situated in the quiet foothills of Higashiyama, our time at this beautiful traditional wooden townhouse (aka machiya) provided an authentic insight into Japanese residential life, while still being walkable to landmarks in the area like Kiyomizudera, and public transport such as Tofukuji Station. The property’s interior itself was stylish, with modern furnishings, a small charming Japanese garden, and even a kotatsu. What truly elevated our stay, however, was the incredible hospitality of the hosts, Rachel and Ryoko (can’t also forget good dog Seifer). Being welcomed into the property with an assortment of baked goods and snacks, to Rachel’s recommendations of hidden gems in the area, particularly a walking route which took us to the top of Fushimi Inari whilst beating the crowds, and their willingness to help at any time made us feel at home. In particular, Rachel’s support on our last day in Kyoto, when we discovered we had an emergency with our next leg of the trip, was so kind and reassuring, and truly went above and beyond anything we could have reasonably expected, and we can’t thank her enough. This place is rated 9.8/10 (at time of writing) with good reason. Quite simply the gold standard of stays.

“Beautiful accomodation for an authentic Kyoto experience”

It was located in the suburbs for a peaceful stay in a very busy city. Well located for walks , many local restaurants and convenience stores . Close to a bus stop for getting into the centre . We appreciated all the advice and tips for staying in Kyoto which made our stay very easy . The owner had provided many fridge and pantry items so we were able to relax and stay in to cook a meal . Very clean and beautifully renovated Loved the bath!

Traditional Kyoto Style house but inside is new style and variety of free items like drinks, snacks and breads.. Even socks Stuff are really kind we did in-house Korean BBQ they provided the facility for that. Walking distance to Kiyomizu temple

A stunning traditional Japanese house, perfectly located for exploring Kyoto. Spacious, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed including a serene stone bath overlooking a charming little Japanese garden. Rachel, the wonderful hostess, went above and beyond always available to help, call taxis, and share local tips and hidden gems.

What a location, we had the most amazing stay here! Rachel and Ryoko are incredible hosts, and they helped us with any questions and requests we had, including both receiving and forwarding our luggage for us. The house was packed with snacks and beverages when we arrived, which was so nice after a long day of traveling. Absolutely the highlight of our almost 3-week trip!

Cozy and traditional with all of the luxury of modern amenities. Rachel is a fantastic hostess – very helpful and knowledgeable.

It was a beautiful and authentic place. We were satisfied with our stay from beginning to end. If you're carrying luggage, I recommend taking a taxi from Kyoto Station — since it's a short distance, the cost is about the same as public transport. The owner, Rachel, was very attentive. They had prepared lovely treats for the guests. On the day of our departure, she woke up at 6 a.m. to call a taxi for us. We really appreciate all her help.

Its a vey nice bungalow in a living area. The host is phenomenal, super friendly and supporting. She organized everything including tickets for the baseball game. Speaks fluently English and had worked in London before.

The style, The location and the service were all amazing, Rachael the host was amazing and provided the most amazing service and even gave us recommendations for places to visit off the beaten path which turned out to be unreal! 10/10 will definitely stay again!

Rachel is perfect and caring. The upgraded place to another block in the same lane is excellent and we were impressed with the Japanese design details. The snacks and drinks were great! Surprised there was even ice cream. All the electrical appliance and beds were perfect. Will definitely stay again if we visit Kyoto in the future :)

Very nice houses and super friendly staff. House had everything we needed. It's on a quite street and we didn't hear any of the other guests.
