I stayed here with my wife, small baby and mother in law. The apartment was very pretty, super well located (in the old part of the city but still walking distance to train station) and staff very welcoming and friendly. They offered a light but very nice breakfast as well as useful tips about the area.

Brilliant location and this was even better for views early morning and later at night. Super peaceful. Room was minimalist and thoughtfully curated, with nice amenities. The breakfast basket and fruit was a lovely touch to better enjoy the time in the mornings.

“This provides a modernised version of a Japanese aesthetic that people may dream of when they think of Japan and style.”
This place is expensive but well priced for the beauty and aesthetic detail it offers. A traditional ryokan in Hakone or in Kurashiki is possibly struggling to maintain the property and offer modern ammenities and updated food and will charge more than here for less comfort and beauty. Toutou ‘s renovation gives everything a traditional ryokan might have, in a modern comfortable way . (No dinner but great fruit / breads/ tea and facilities to bring in food provided) I would come here everytime I was in Japan . …. And I usually don’t pay more than about $75 US / $100 to $120 NZ per night per person when travelling. Stay two nights if you can. It really does deliver at this price point.
