“Amazing Experience”
Our stay at the temple was an amazing experience. The room was exquisite and had clearly been freshly renovated. The beds were very comfortable and spacious, and the small private garden was a lovely touch. The in-room private bath was also a highlight. Nothing felt missing, including the tea and coffee provided, which were excellent. The evening meal, included in our stay, was an experience in itself. It was incredibly fresh, full of flavour, and our first traditional Japanese meal since arriving, making it a perfect start to our culinary journey across Japan. The care and attention in both the preparation and service was something we had not experienced before. The same level of quality carried through to breakfast, with beautifully presented vegan dishes and delicious tea. At first glance, the room may seem expensive for a single night, but the value is in the full experience, from the accommodation to the food and the cultural ceremonies included. It is an experience we would gladly repeat on a future visit.

“Devine :)”
Loved the dinner and breakfast served. It was a very unique experience to stay at a temple. The tatami mats on floor, wooden furniture, futon beds - all gave a very "authentic Japan" vibe! Staff was polite and co-ordial.

“Incredible once in a life time must do in Japan”
Stunning Temple with the most amazing experience we had in Japan. The meditation and fire ceremonies were a once in a lifetime experience, something you absolutely must do while in Japan. It was a beautiful stay from start to finish. The food was absolutely beautiful with so many dishes to try and so much flavour. The grounds of the temple are incredibly beautiful. You feel like your soul has finally exhaled when you walk in. The whole experience was incredible from start to finish.

“Amazing experience, beautiful temple”
Ekoin temple is architecturally so stunning! Our room was perfect and had a lovely view overlooking the garden. The staff are extremely professional and friendly, they have a clear system for serving dinner / breakfast, and prepping the rooms while you are attending the ceremonies/meditation sessions. Highlights was of course the meditation session, morning prayers and fire ceremony. It’s feels very intimate and it’s well set up you can see everything up close (even though you are with other guests). It was a really special experience. I didn’t love the idea of the shared bathroom but there were toilets on each little corridor and I never had to wait/bumped into anyone while using.

“A truly unforgettable and unique temple stay with exceptional rooms and experiences”
Koyasan Syukubo Ekoin Temple is simply incredible. We stayed in a luxurious renovated suite — quite pricey, but absolutely worth it. The room was stunning, with a very modern, high-end bathroom and everything spotlessly clean. The in-room dinner service was an experience in itself, with a wide variety of beautifully presented dishes. Beyond the room, the temple experience truly stood out: attending the morning prayers and the fire ceremony made the stay feel unique and memorable. It’s hard to fully capture how special this place is.

“An unforgettable experience”
We loved everything about our stay. The temple is peaceful and calm, with exceptional food (all vegan, the best we had in Japan.) The staff are kind and thoughtful, allowing you to participate in prayer as and when you choose. It is also located perfectly in Koyasan, with easy access to the Okunoin grave yard where we enjoyed a night tour with Nori, one of the temple’s knowledgable monks. We slept in traditional rooms and enjoyed the public bath in the morning, an invigorating way to start your day. We cannot recommend staying here more highly.

“Unique, interesting and welcoming.”
A unique and wonderful experience. The monks were so friendly and personally showed us to our rooms and explained all the activities you can be involved in. The room had a small heater that made it so toasty and warm. The vegetarian meals were so impressive, while we were unused to the taste and did not enjoy all items, the effort put into the preparation and presentation we appreciated greatly. We enjoyed learning about the meditation technique and viewing the fire ceremony. We attended the cemetery tour which is run separate from the accomodation, but the guide was one of the monks from our temple, Nori was so friendly and informative, speaking with him and learning about Kobo Daishi was the highlight of our 2 week Japan trip. Also the futons are surprisingly comfortable, best nights sleep ever.

“Authentic, peaceful full spiritual experience in Koyasan”
The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful - we were warmly greeted and helped with our bags. Left in the hotel to wonder around Koyasan, followed by a bath with a view to the temple gardens. Tea in our garden window seat in the room. Meditation, led by a fantastic monk who was patient and well explained. Then a truly wonderful dinner before heading out for the cemetery tour (run by a different company, you need to book on their website). Beds laid out for us in the room by the time we got back for an excellent night sleep (I love harder mattresses!). Then the next day, service & fire ritual were fantastic. Really worth getting up early for. Breakfast again was great. Good little coffee machine in reception (free)!. Would highly recommend.
