Overview
Located in the sacred Mount Koya area, 高野山 宿坊 桜池院 -Koyasan Shukubo Yochiin- is a historic temple and an accommodation for visitors. Just to the left of entering sanmon gate, there is a stone garden created by the famous Mirei Shigemori and designated a natural monument by the Japanese government. Guests can experience temple activities such as meditation, sutra copying and tracing of Buddhist deities at an additional charge, if reserved in advance. Guests can also participate in morning prayers, which do not require reservation. All rooms at 高野山 宿坊 桜池院 -Koyasan Shukubo Yochiin- are Japanese-style and feature tatami (woven-straw) floors. Traditional futon bedding, a TV, fan and heater are provided. Bathroom and toilet are shared with other guests. The spacious public baths feature a hot tub. On-site luggage storage is available. Guests with reservations that include a meal can enjoy delicately prepared homemade vegetarian meals featuring seasonal dishes. Convenience stores are located within a 3-minute walking distance from the property. It is a 10-minute walk from the famous Kongobuji Temple. Guests can visit the Buddhist temple, Danjogaran, just a 3-minute walk away.

Everything was perfect, from the typical meals to the room, including the guided tour of the cemetry at night. It was a great experience. The Monk from Sweden was super kind and knowledgeable.

Everything about the stay was fantastic. This was a truly unforgettable experience. Theo-San was really welcoming, friendly and informative. Our room was sooo comfortable and serene, we could have stayed there a week. Really highly recommended. Exceptional.

“Great!”
Loved our stay here! The room was newly renovated. Clean, modern, and really comfortable. Having our own bathroom was a nice bonus, and everything felt fresh and well taken care of.

Very nice but in the corridor too cold (12 degree). Very strict with timetable . No meal served in the room. Family room super and very comfortable. Also bath very clean and warm.

Fantastic accommodation. The good was delicious and so healthy. The highlight was the guided tour by one of the temple’s monk in the cemetery at night time. Exceptional !

Amazing experience! So comfortable with great food! The highlight was definitely the monks who were so kind. Very very grateful to the young Swedish monk who took his time to explain his journey and answered all our questions, helping our immersion in the beautiful culture surrounding esoteric buddhism, this temple and Koyasan as a whole. Highly recommended!

“A temple stay way beyond our expectations!”
The temple stay was wonderful. Our room was gorgeous, looking into an inner garden, with a lovely bathroom and a huge wardrobe. It was spotlessly clean and extremely spacious. We were offered hakatas, and took the delicious veggie dinner and breakfast in a side room of the temple. The staff were so polite and helpful and one monk took us on a very informative tour of the graveyard after dark on Halloween - perfect. We were lucky enough to attend the morning prayer ceremony with only one other guest which made it very intimate, in the stunning inner sanctum. The whole building and its gardens are really fabulous. I wasn’t sure what to expect and if we would feel like intruders, but the stay was way beyond our expectations
