This stay was the highlight of our trip. The temple is really beautiful and our room was stunning and really confortable. The team was warm and welcoming and we enjoyed the vegetarian dinner. We did the evening mediation and attended the morning prayer. This experience can only be recommend

“A cultural experience”

The location and gardens are beautiful. We were welcomed to store bags before check in, but 3pm is strictly observed. We were personally escorted around the entire shukubo on arrival to show us all the facilities in detail. Our room was very spacious and well appointed with hot water provided for tea. The entire place is finished to a very high spec, and maintenance work sometimes continues during the day. The package included meditation, a beautifully presented evening meal, chanting the next morning and a beautiful breakfast; the food could not be faulted. We're not very familiar with Japanese cuisine and don't know how best to combine the many dishes presented for the meals in order to fully appreciate them. Maybe a little explanation might be beneficial? When we checked out it was raining, but the young man at reception offered us an umbrella to be passed on when we finished using it, he gave us invaluable information regarding bus times and waved us goodbye from the front step. Overall a wonderful experience in serene surroundings with professional staff, but we feel it was maybe a little too polished and rehearsed. The whole process felt like a very well oiled machine rather than a personal spiritual journey.

Beautiful temple and grounds, delicious food. Room was spacious and perfect for a nights stay, it was so lovely taking part in the meditation and chanting. Super helpful and lovely team too.

“A pleasant and worthwhile experience”

The food was good Japanese cuisine. This type of food would not be our first choice to eat but it was very good compared to other japanese cuisine we sampled during our vacation. being vegetarian was not a problem - the meat was not missed as the tofu provided was excellent.
