Perfect location surrounded by nature and away from the city, there are snowshoes and skis that can be used for free. Design, location, cleanliness, friendliness

We had a magical time at Máttaráhkká, the location is perfect being a short drive from Kiruna town centre (we even walked across the frozen lake into town once!) but it's far enough from light pollution to see the northern lights. Emma, Mikko and Mikko's mum are really lovely people who made us feel like home, and what a home the lodge was for the week we spent there. The rooms are warm, cosy and generally lovely, and the common area feels like your own living room in the wilderness. I thoroughly recommend the lodge to anyone who wants to go see the lights and have a great time above the Arctic Circle.

Mikko, Singhild and Fabio were welcoming and very friendly. They told us about the area and things to do. Went out of their way to help us and others.

“Lovely people with a great property”

Everyone working there was extremely friendly and welcoming. We were only there a few minutes before being invited to have some tea/coffee in front of a big log fire. The room was nice with a nice seating area on a mezzanine. Breakfast was great and we were able to try cross country skiing for free (we could also have taken some snow shoes out if we had been there for more than one night). To top it all off, after a nice dinner in Camp Ripan, we came back and decided to go for a quick walk in the surrounding area and happened to see the aurora almost immediately! Great place

The staff was really friendly and approachable. They have been very helpful whenever we have problems. On the day of our snowmobile northern light tour, there was a heavy snow which results in us not able to catch the northern light. However, Adrian still went all the way up to the mountain in order to provide us with the best experience. The dinner in tipi before the tour was really delicious and we had the chance to talk to other travellers from other countries during dinner time. Aside from that, the home-cooked dinner in the lodge itself was exceptional! I am really in love with the dessert. Lastly, the room is on a smaller side but it's really cosy.

“Great cosy and confortable lodge in Lapland”

We really enjoyed staying at the Mattarrahka Lodge. We got in late morning before the check-in time but our host managed to prepare our room so we didn't have to wait too long. The place is very cosy, confortable, nicely decorated and it makes us feel at home. Barbara cooked delicious meals and breakfast is also very good with a large choice of options. Mikka and his family are extremely nice and helpful. Thanks to Mikka, we booked dogsledding through Lapland Adventure and had the best time we could have hoped for. We highly recommend this place. My husband and I really a relaxing, peaceful and pleasant time and we would love to go back another time, possibly in summer! Thanks a lot Mikka!

“Nice and pleasant stopover in Kiruna”

Very nice lodge. We stayed for one night, and everything was fine. Quiet and clean room, excellent staff, and great breakfast. We recommend this hotel.

The lodge has a beautiful vibe to it. Its secluded from the city so you can easily see the northern nights when the sky is clear, and thats such a plus. they have 24*7 coffee tea facilities which is so cool! Even the room is so beautiful.

“Amazing, wish we stayed an extra night!”

A very homely feel, comfy beds and rooms, we had a wonderful dinner and received amazing service from staff, in particular Barbara who made our stay so much more enjoyable. Lovely buffet breakfast included in our package and location isn’t too far via car ride from town centre. We booked some spa time on the roof top and saw the northern lights! Really enjoyed our stay

Enough relax space in the lobby, the rooms are nice and cozy, the location is fantastic! And the snowmobile tour direct from the lodge is just awesome! Staff is friendly.

Cozy, comfy, a perfect retreat. Our room was warm and clean, and came with a lovely loft. The sauna was heavenly in the cold winter. Ski gears can be borrowed for free, and there was lots of snow right outside to ski on. Shout out to Mikko and co who runs the place so well!

“Great hotel for trying to see the norther lights”

We went to this hotel for the location outside of Kiruna, and the location is perfect for doing short hikes outside and getting away from most of the light polution. The beds were comfortable and the lounge area very cosy.

Nice location to watch the northern lights. The rooms were very cozy and the common areas provided an excellent space to either just relax or to chat with other travelers. All the staff was wonderful and quick to help and answer questions. We also recommend the activity packages from them.
