“One of my all-time favourite places to stay!”

Everything! Super friendly Hokkaidi (haha) lady at the check-in, who showed me around the guesthouse after I checked in. She shared about some of the history of Kesennuma and her love of the area, which was so wonderful to hear about. The dormitory was very warm and the mattress was super comfortable, I had such a good night’s sleep here. Really nice shared space downstairs and the community kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook up a good meal. It’s walkable from the nearest train/bus station, and on your way you’ll see a lot of konbinis and restaurants and shops. This was exactly what I’d been looking for during my travels in Japan, with such a lovely, warm, community-led atmosphere and I’d come back here over and over again.

I had the pleasure of staying at SLOW HOUSE on the Michinoku Trail from Kessenuma to Futaba, and found a warm and welcoming guest house, managed by travellers for travellers. The staff were exceptionally friendly and myself and the other guests shared a hearty meal with our host. Highly recommended!
