“Exceptional customer service and experience”

Staying at the Guesthouse is a must if you go to Katsuyama and visit the dinosaur museum, especially if you have children, even older ones. The stay enhanced the experience. As other reviews have attested, I confirm the hospitality the owners provided us and went beyond our expectations. Many people will visit the museum as a day trip. However, I highly recommend staying overnight if you are a Japanese national with children or, like me, an international tourist.

“Great stay at Katsuyama”

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The guesthouse is all themed with dinosaurs, as seen in the pictures. The facilities are great. We got offered some food and drinks at no extra cost, and we really appreciate this as there were not many close options to get food late at night.

The staff was absolutely lovely. They keep the shared kitchen stocked with eggs and they gift you bread and drinks in the room refrigerator. They were so nice and my family had a lot of fun with the numerous dinosaur toys, puzzles, and decorations.

“Amazing experience”

Dinosaur fans would love it! Decorations are all over the place: entrance (outside and inside), entrance hall, kitchen, room, even in the bathroom. Good for families since dinosaur puzzles, books, pencils, some card games are provided in the room.My son and me were also amazed with the dinosaur night projector lamp which added the magic to the room atmosphere ;)

“Charming, whimsical and comfortable”

Once we parked outside the building in a dedicated parking lot for 4 or 5 cars, our hosts, a lovely couple of whom I did not get thier names, were wonderful people who showed us the property. They live downstairs while upstairs has 4 or 5 rooms that each have several beds. There is a communal kitchen with all the cutlery and cookware you need, as well as basic foods and free icecreams! Our room had 4 beds, 2 large and 2 small lined up on the floor and a private bathroom although there is a seperate bathroom for men and women as well. We were given fresh bread, bottled water, bacon and eggs with the room as well as many drinks including a local beer! Our hosts helped us carry our luggage up the slightly steep stairs and then asked us if we'd be eating in or dining out, and then recommended us a local place to eat that did not dissapoint. The dinosuar themed stay was charming and every little touch was dinosuars much to the delight of my partner. We were the only guests staying in the house at the time, and felt private and respected. Thank you very much for the delightful stay <3

“The best guesthouse I’ve been to! 10/10”

This was fantastic. The room and all facilities were super clean and nice. And the dinosaur details were really cool. The owners are very kind and helpful. They also provide breakfast, drinks, ice cream and other things for cooking if you want to use the kitchen.

Hosts were very accommodating despite speaking little English and my limited Japanese. Translation app overcame that barrier. A stocked fridge and comprehensive facilities made my stay very enjoyable. I was able to cook a simple meal, and do some laundry without having to leave the guesthouse in the heavy snow! The cherry on top was the owner driving me to the dinosaur museum in the morning. Very unexpected but much appreciated.

“Loved this guesthouse!”

The room was quirky and fun. There was a shared kitchen with everything you need to make yourself breakfast. The owner could not have been kinder - he met us at the train station and drove us to the guesthouse, later he took us to a restaurant (after discussing what kind of food we wanted) and collected us afterwards. The next morning he drove us to the dinosaur museum in time to make our reservations. Amazing service!

“Dinosaur wonderland”

If you like dinosaurs and want to visit the dinosaur museum, this is the place to be! The house is filled with cute dinosaur goodies and is only a little hike or busride away from the amazing museum or the beautiful Heisenji shrine and Echizen temple! The Host and Hostess are very kind, even with limited English we were able to communicate just fine. They offered to drive me to my destination every morning which was very sweet. The house comes with all amenities you wish for, even ice cream and eggs/bacon/bread (and more) to make breakfast.

“Comfortable, quirky and charming for dinosaur fans”

It was charming and the hosts were super helpful, including the lifts to and from the museum. It would be very good for a family travelling with kids - Dino slippers and oodies to play with and you could have a cook-up in the kitchen with the local veg and eggs, bacon etc provided

The owners were extremely kind and the rooms were so much fun to stay in, good location for visiting both the dinosaur museum and Echizen Daibutsu

“Cozy, well equipped, exceptional hosts!”

The hosts are exceptionally nice. They picked us up from the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum and brought us to the train station the next morning. The entire guest house is extremely well equipped, including the well-stocked kitchen. Finally it is decorated to please every dinosaur enthusiast.

It was a lot of fun staying here - the owners were very welcoming, and the amount of energy that has been put into the decorations is fantastic. It was like being a kid again - even the blankets had glow in the dark dinosaurs on them! The location was a comfortable walk from the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum (about 5km) and there were plenty of other things to explore nearby.

Everything at this lodging is new. The owner has decent English fluency and was very helpful with local recommendations. There’s ample free parking available. If you self-cater, there’s a well-equipped kitchen that comes with rice and noodles, sauces, condiments, and cooking oil provided for free. A washer & dryer are also available. Bread, jam, butter & bacon are provided for breakfast. It’s also very kids friendly, built around the dinosaur theme. My 6-year-old, a dinosaur fan, absolutely loved the place. Which kid could resist the free dinosaur toys? Or flipping through the well-stocked mini library of dinosaur books? Or romping around in dinosaur cosplay pretending to be T-Rex! Find out about the dinosaur surprise awaiting you when its lights off at night. A delightful place for family with young kids.
