A fabulous place to stay, with a wise and gentle host. Great location overlooking the lake, in walking distance to centre. The best brekkie we had in SL and definitely the friendliest host. We were sad to leave.

“Kandy’s most ideal setting”

Perfect location in the hills close to the lake. The host is extremely kind and welcoming and cannot do. enough for his guests. The house is a traditional Kandyan style and tastefully furnished with a well maintained attractive garden. Very generous breakfasts are served on a terrace with fabulous views across the hills.

This was easily our favorite place to stay in Sri Lanka! İt's a beautiful house located up the hill only a 5 minute walk from Kandy lake, we got a stunning view on the lake and hills of Kandy from our balcony! There's no big street close by so it's quiet at night! The rooms were very clean and nicely furnished and had everything we needed! The included breakfast was always delicious and started as early as 7am, which was great for us since we like to make the most of the mornings and leave for the city early. The host Sarath, his lovely family and friendly staff really made this place feel like a home for their guests, we enjoyed long conversations with him and appreciated his advice on things to see in Kandy! We decided to stay one more night than we had planned originally and that was no problem as well! We were sad to leave, but we're already looking forward to staying here again the next time we come to Sri Lanka!

“Great stay at Freedom Lodge.”

Great location, slightly uphill on a road just off the lake and is within walking distance to Kandy centre. There are also a few restaurants close by to the accommodation. The room was basically furnished but was comfortable. The host was very welcoming and was happy to help with recommendations in the area. The provided breakfast was very nice. I enjoyed my stay.

Location was great for the lake and town. The host was so friendly and knowledgeable, we could have chatted for ages, in fact we did :-). Breakfast was great. Property nice and secure. Would stay again next time we visit.

The room is spacious, has a mosquito net, fan and just the right amount of furniture. I had a small balcony on the side of my room with a view towards the lake and Kandy's center. The breakfast was good. The shower had hot water and enough pressure. The friendly owner can organize tickets to Kandy dance show , a tuk-tuk or whatever you are interested in.

Loveliest couple running this pretty homestay for decades. So kind and helpfull and we had a lovely huge room with beautiful windowed-doors. Great breakfast (fresh fruit and toast and fried eggs), too good price for what you get. Book it!

“We managed the stay, but do not directly recommend this hotel. We expected more based on rating and previous reviews.”

We stayed for two nights as a family of four. The lodge is located in a safe area not far from the city center, and for us it was within walking distance. There is also a safe pedestrian path along the busy road. The place is easy to find, as it is located next to the Radisson. The family who runs the lodge was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and included tea or coffee, toast with butter and jam, eggs prepared to your preference (scrambled, fried, omelette, etc.), and a plate of fruit. The place was calm and quiet at night. They also provide washing lines on the rooftop, which made it easy to dry clothes after rinsing them following a hot day at the market.

We received a very warm welcome and were always well advised when it came to planning the day.

Warm welcome from hosts. Good location. Large clean room with en suite.. Good breakfast. We had one evening meal which was delicious. Enjoyed an afternoon tour of area around Kandy with owner.

Cost, comfortable, family run business. Our hosts were super accommodating, friendly and informative of Srilankan life. We felt at home here. The breakfast was to die for!!!

Big room in a family-run house though can see that the facilities are getting old. There is a shared kitchen with a communal fridge, and you can boil your water at the stove.

Sarath & Nalini very welcoming with tea when we arrived much appreciated after a long day travelling. Accommodation near centre of Kandy walking distance by lake, excellent breakfast nothing was too much trouble I will be recommending this stay to friends nice to stay with locals
