Blue Reef Accommodation is one of those rare places that instantly makes you feel at home. Thomas and Nicky are incredibly passionate owners, and it genuinely shows in every detail. The vibe is much closer to a homestay than a hotel—warm, personal, and welcoming from the moment you arrive. The team deserves a special mention. They are exceptionally well trained, and you can clearly feel the difference in service quality and speed. Compared to many restaurants and stays across Zanzibar, the service here is on another level. A big highlight for me was the cocktails—absolutely top-notch. They easily match the quality you’d expect from a good bar in any major city, which is especially impressive given how challenging access to ice can be in Zanzibar. We stayed here over New Year’s Eve, and it turned out to be one of the best New Year celebrations I’ve ever experienced. Soft live music, a special dance performance by the staff, and a beach BBQ created a magical and intimate atmosphere rather than a loud, commercial party. We didn’t personally go on the fishing trip, but heard excellent feedback from other guests. Since the owners themselves conduct these trips, I can imagine they’re very thoughtfully done and special. The accommodation can arrange everything—from taxis to activities. For excursions, they collaborate with local agents, so those experiences are more standard. If you’re looking for something more exclusive, the fishing trip seems to be the standout option. Overall, Blue Reef is perfect if you’re looking for warmth, great service, excellent food and drinks, and an experience that feels personal rather than touristy. Would happily return and recommend it without hesitation.

It was my absolutely happy place. Feels like homecoming. The staff were so attentive and tried to fulfill all my wishes. This place is so wonderful and, for me, the most beautiful place in all of Zanzibar.

The location is phantastic, directly at the beach, you walk in sand to the breakfast table having a great view on the sea with its changing colours. of different blues. It is not luxurious, but authentic and you have everything you need, the staff is very friendly and helpful. You can do many activities.

I had an incredible stay at Blue Reef! The location is perfect, right by the beach, and the gym area was fantastic, allowing me to get some great workouts in during my stay. The staff and owners were incredibly welcoming and offered excellent recommendations for tours and activities. I also felt completely safe throughout my visit, which meant a lot as a solo female traveler. The food was absolutely delicious, and they were happy to accommodate specific dietary needs. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this place enough and would definitely come back!

Perfect spot in Jambiani with beautiful views of the ocean. The staff is very friendly, helpful and communicates very well. They offer activities with their own boat which is a huge bonus and we can totally recommend it. The activities are also not what everyone else offers which is a refreshing and totally different experience. Will not stay anywhere else in Jambiani

The staff was friendly and in good mood. Always attentive. The beach was kept clean, which seemed to be part of the 'clean village project', which is actively supported by Blue Reef. We had breakfast and dinner. We have chosen the healthy variety, which was good and rife in fruit. Dinner was excellent. From the concise menu we enjoyed the yellow tuna steak from freshly caught fish by staff (as can be expected in a 'fishing' lodge). We were very pleased by the huge beach that appeared at low tide.

“Hidden gem in Jambiani!”

Beautiful location (and quiet in Jambiani), the bungalows are hidden in the greenery! Private yet overlooking the sea. The staff are very welcoming and friendly! Definitely recommended!

“Nice place to enjoy Jambiani”

Staff was very friendly, despite the location being wrong compared to what we have in Booking. There are two places, the Sports Lodges and the Bungalows, where in the first you get the gym, bar and restaurants and in the bungalows you get a smaller bar, pizza only restaurants and the bungalows. You can use both facilities for free, but maybe something that could be highlighted better.

The team at the Blue Reef is EXCEPTIONAL and goes beyond to make your stay special and answer all questions. We made friends and felt truly at home. The location of the lodge at the beach is the best - although we wandered and checked out other locations we always deferred back to our spot which is amazing. Another huge call-out for all the food options (no matter if Blue Reef 1 or 2 with their Pizzas) and the cocktails - everything is absolutely delicious and amazing. Our time to leave was really tough and we felt super welcome throughout the stay - big thank you to everybody, we already miss it so much!
