Overview
Set 15 minutes’ walk from the town centre of Ilulissat, HOTEL SØMA Ilulissat has spectacular views of the world famous Ilulissat Icefjord. Staff can advise on arctic adventure tours and local activities, and the hotel also offers free airport transfers. Each floor of HOTEL SØMA Ilulissat has a balcony walkway to which each room has access. Inside, the rooms are modern and bright, with a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom, and either views of the mountains or of the fjord. There is also a penthouse apartment with kitchen facilities. Breakfast is served in the restaurant with its own balcony. The town of Ilulissat is home to several cafés and shops, and has its own ferry port and harbour. Ilulissat Airport is 3 km away and providing connections with Nuuk and other towns along the western coast.

“Good place for the money”

The hotel is near the airport. Standing on the balcony on the 2nd floor, we can see beautiful views of the fjord.

Overall we were very satisfied, communication with the staff before and during the holiday was excellent. The room was clean (room cleaning very good) and comfortable. Nice view of the fjord. Free transfers to and from the hotel were useful.

“Amazing place that feels better than some 5-star hotels”
I stayed here for one night only, so my opinion might be limited. That said, what I managed to experience in this short time was truly amazing and exceeded all my expectations! My room was so spacious and clean, my bed was enormous and incredibly soft, and I even had a private kitchenette - something that I did not expect at all. I would even say that my room was better than in some 5-star hotels in which I stayed previously. The ladies at the reception were also friendly, kind, helpful and caring. They answered all my questions and even gave me some advice about the city, which made my short stay in Ilulissat much more pleasant and convenient. One can also pay with a bank card here, which is tremendously convenient, and as a person who cannot stand paying in cash, I especially appreciate it. I further had an amazing view from my room of beautiful snowy mountains - but this surely depends on your luck with your room location. Breakfast is included, and while it offered only some basics, it was still really handy because I had an early morning flight. A cherry on the cake is that this hotel offers free transfers from/to both the airport and the harbour. Thus, it was easy and convenient to get to/from here. The only thing that might concern some people is the hotel's location. It is relatively far from all the most important landmarks, being located on the opposite side of the city from pretty much everything - but I personally did not mind it at all because I love walking. Also, in return for this relatively distant location, you get amazing views from the hotel itself and its nearby area and can see the city, the ocean and many icebergs from above. To sum up, I definitely recommend this hotel to everyone who is looking for affordable accommodation in Ilulissat.

View of a bay packed with icebergs. Lovely staff who were very helpful, and drove me to the airport at the end of my stay. There was a fridge and plates/cutlery in the room which was really useful. Comfy bed, and bug screens at the windows/door to the veranda.

The personnel were very nice and helpful, they picked us up from the airport at midnight. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We liked the common room in which one can stay after check out if needed; moreover, complimentary tea and coffee is available there at all times. Our boat was rebooked last minute and we needed to stay in common space a bit longer to sort out other accommodation - the crew at the hotel was OK with that and even gave us a lift to the other place.
