Wow - an incredible stay in Ikuno. Like stepping back in time to experience a part of Japan’s history. A tranquil and calm spot after the hustle and bustle of the cities. Locals are friendly and welcoming. The stay exceeded our expectations with wonderful facilities and lots of information. Thank you!

“Highlight of our journey”
This was the best stay we had on our four month journey through japan. We spent christmas and new years here. It was truly a very special experience to basically live in a museum. We really loved the traditional house! The host, Réhan, was unbelievably kind and we even got along really well. He gave us advise on what to see and do and was able to tell us a lot about the interesting history of Ikuno. And he even drove us to the silver mine and to the train station! The village itself is really nice and we even got to participate in some mochi making at a local families house! There’s a lot of day trips you can do from this place as well, like to Himeji or Kinosali onsen. And there’s also lots to see in and to learn about Ikuno. Ringing the bell at a temple on New years eve was also a very special experience. We couldn’t have imagined a better place to have a calm and cozy retreat but also to gain some authentic japanese experiences. Thank you very much for you outstanding hospitality, Réhan!

“Unforgettable”
I’m not even sure where to begin — our stay in Ikuno was truly unforgettable. Our host, Rehan (a fellow South African living in Ikuno), went above and beyond for us. He offered to fetch us in Kobe walked us around the city, drove us all the way to Ikuno and even organised the most incredible meal for us at the local izakaya. His kindness set the tone for the whole stay. The accommodation itself was breathtaking - a beautifully renovated traditional company house that felt both historic and homely. Spacious, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed. One of my favourite moments was waking up to the sound of rain and looking out at the trees on the mountain. Pure magic. I would recommend this stay in a heartbeat. The accommodation is remarkable, the town is enchanting, and Rehan’s generosity, passion, and knowledge made the experience feel genuinely special. This was my favourite part of my entire trip in Japan and moments I will never forget. Thank you Rehan, cannot wait to visit again!

“Comfortable and easy to settle into a traditional Japanese old house with modern comfort”
Though a traditional Japanese house with a long history, there are modern comforts and we were able to enjoy our stay and slept well. Good space and sufficient heating. The bath tub is big and deep, fills up quickly and drains off super fast too. It is fairly near to good golf courses, Ritsuunkyo and Tonomine Highlands and less than an hour to Himeiji Castle. We enjoyed these places.

Imagine a Tera Machi of 8 temples in your back, a solid wall protecting the front side and a river to cross. This all in an old but nevertheless very comfortable original house. You do not have to miss any comfort to still get the experience of living in older times. The house contains museum items so every day there is something to inspect or admire. No, you do not have to tiptoe through the big rooms, you have ample space to move. The modern built old bathtub is a comfortable and funny experience. The kitchen has all necessary modern amenities in a style that suits the property. In all details a successful attempt to perfection. Besides all this, Ikuno is a charming little town, with surprising good views at every bend of the river, where life seems to go at an easy pace. There are nice places to eat and there is a big enough supermarket with a good variety of fresh foods.

The accommodation is fantastic; it's like being in a movie. Rehan is the best host we could have asked for, helping us immediately with a medical emergency we had. I highly recommend staying here!

“A lovely, quiet, calming spot to unwind and relax.”
We really enjoyed the experience and ambience that the building and all its traditional features including location provided. We spent a nice slow week here. It surprisingly snowed lots! This made it very cosy to use the living space to relax and breath, watching the snow fall out of the expansive corridor windows. The tiled bathroom was also a very cool experience.

I loved everything about my trip at Ikuno ! The house was already warmed up when I arrived. Inside the house, traditional architecture allowed for very nice cosy rooms. If wanted, it was possible to open up the sliding doors to have a nice outdoor view. The kotatsu was perfect for reading books while keeping me warm, and the old bath experience was quite something. The house is located near lot of shrines to visit. If outdoors walk on mountain pathways is your thing, you won't be disappointed! People here are quite enthusiastic about awnsering your questions about the history of the city, which is rich to say the least. If you want to experience what it is like to live in a traditional japanesse home while having things to discover all around it, I can only recommend you to take a look at Ikuno Stay !

“Traditional house with lots of historical displays”
Beautiful traditional house located in a small town. The heating for the room works very well, and there are a lot of amenities (washing machine, fully functional kitchen, wifi). The owner is very accommodating and I could check in early. Walking around in Ikuno feels very relaxing and there are beautiful sights.

“Authentic Japanese home in a stunning location”
The house is very spacious, especially for 2 people. It was great to discover so many areas with all the sliding doors, creating an authentic Japanese experience. The bathroom has been modernised. We were given a comprehensive list of local recommendations in the area. The heating in the house was very warm, especially when it was 1 degree outside at night. Check-in was simple, with ease of communication.
