“A magical old Finnish house with an amazing aura”

One of the best, most atmospheric places we have ever stayed at. Both the old school building and its interior are amazing. You feel almost as if you have travelled back in time, at the same time there are all the modern comforts. Loved the smell of the old wooden walls , the high ceiling, all the historic details, rocking chair, very comfortable beds, all the kitchen appliances... There are books (also in English) to read in the living room, several games to play (most in Finnish), the kitchen is fully equipped. We felt as being guests at someone's home. The host Merja was very forthcoming, she met us upon arrival and answered all our questions on Whatsapp at once during our stay, and really took great care for our stay to be comfortable in the extremely cold weather (-28 degrees). The surroundings are beautiful as well - a forest and a river, which you can see from bedroom and kitchen windows. There is a hydropower dam bit further up the river, which casts lights over the river during the night. The electric lights didn't disturb us to see some pale Northern Lights just over the tree-line on the last night of our stay even though the location is well below the Northern Lights belt. There are some neighboring houses nearby, but you cannot see or hear them from house. Loved also the traditional wood-heated sauna by the river, very spacious and clean. We recommend also to try the little café/ shop in the village - fresh and tasty pastries and cakes.
