“Wonderfully restful, relaxing stay at friendly small hotel in the lovely town of Houlgate - we shall”
We had a family suite (one double and one single room plus bathroom) on second floor overlooking sea. Rooms a nice size, beds very comfortable, view over beach superb! Location perfect, 3 minutes to beach , 5 to lovely restaurants. The staff were incredibly welcoming and kind, especially Quentin on reception. We appreciated the kettle nd mini fridge in the room.

“Great for a short break we had a couple of days as part of a longer holiday”
Next to the beach and very close to the many town centre bars and restaurants. Friendly staff, phoned us shortly after checking out as we had left some of our things which was a nice thing to do and often does not happen.

“Houlgate is a lovely beach town to stay when visiting Normandy and all,its attractions”
Great location with convenient close by free parking, biggest plus was lots of good eateries within 10 minutes walk; really excellent seafood too. Houlgate has a massive beach and most interesting architecture from 19th century. Plus a most friendly beach bar. Houlgate really is a gem.

“Our three day stay in Houlgate was ruined by the distress it caused us.”
We had been to this hotel ten years before under previous ownership and found it quite acceptable.This year we had booked a triple room with a bath and sea view. When we arrived we were shown to a very small room with a small double bed and no sea view.I had printed out the booking ,which I showed the receptionist.She went downstairs to look and came back to apologise and say that it was their fault. I said I wanted our money back as we had paid in advance. She then went and phoned the proprietor. He said he wouldn’t refund the money but we could have breakfast free. I said we didn’t want breakfast and couldn’t sleep in the room we had been given as the bed was much too small. My husband insisted on seeing the proprietor but he wasn’t in so we had to wait until the next morning. The receptionist was very helpful and with a colleague separated the bed into twin beds and also gave us a fan to cool the air as the room was like an oven. The next morning when I saw the proprietor, he was defensively aggressive and asked why couldn’t we sympathise with his problem, seeming to forget that he had double booked the best room in the hotel.He also said , angrily, what did we expect as this was a two star hotel and if we wanted five star we could pay 500 euros a night. He had not even offered to refund the difference between the two rooms. This is fraudulent and I would advise people not to go there.

Welcome was warm; room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Very convenient location for our purpose. Only member of staff we saw was very helpful and kind. Breakfast good value.
