Had an amazing stay at Sand Dollar House! The hosts really helpful and friendly. They were so welcoming and even invited us to celebrate Sri Lanka New Year’s with their family, which was such a memorable experience.

Would highly recommend this lovely home stay property, which was very comfortable and in a great, quiet location. We particularly loved having the outdoor space. Our host Roshani was very welcoming and always available to give us advice.

Absolutely the best. Loved the outside space, hammock & day bed where you could relax & watch the birds and early morning-the monkeys as they travel past. The breakfasts varied and were lovely and the host and her children were adorable (and quiet). Walkable to the town and business but far away to be relaxing. We were able to rent their scooter too, giving us freedom to explore quieter beaches further afield.

“Amazing stay in Hiri!”

I had a fantastic stay! I was warmly welcomed by Gayashan and his parents, and I immediately felt at home. In hindsight, I wish I had stayed another night. I’ll definitely be back next time! The homestay is super comfortable, very clean, and beautifully modern. You also have your own garden with a hammock, yoga mat and an outdoor kitchen, in case you want to use it. It’s located a bit higher up, but it's literally a 5-minute walk and you're already in the centre and 10 min to the beach. Every morning I enjoyed a fresh breakfast with eggs, Sri Lankan hopper pancakes, and fresh fruit. What more could you want? Once again, thank you Gayashan & family for the wonderful stay. I will definitely come back when I'm in Sri Lanka again.

Lovely homestay, breakfast and owners

We really enjoyed our stay at Sand Dollar House! You have your own outdoor area which is really nice to chill in. Location is excellent and the owners are very friendly and attentive!

We loved the homely feel, the lovely private courtyard and outdoor kitchen complete with sun bed and hammock. This property has a focus on sustainability which was great. Close to town and Hiri beach it is easily accessible by foot, tuk tuk or bike. The family were such wonderful hosts and we loved getting to know Roshani, the kids and the sweet doggies too. We felt so welcomed and like we had a little home away from home.

Nice little annex away from the busy area of Hiriketiya. The family was very welcoming and offered us a welcome drink which was a nice touch. The facilities are good. The shower could do with some more pressure. Bella the dog is so cute. The breakfast was great!

The outdoor space is great, nice and shaded. You can see monkeys out the back and really friendly cats come usually make an appearance if you’re sitting out. Super relaxing after a day of surfing. The breakfast is also tasty and healthy. Room has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Highly recommend

Everything was wonderful! From a wonderful greeting on the first night we arrived to help coordinating travel to different locations around the area, hands down if you are staying in Hiriketiya stay at Sand Dollar House!!

We had the best time in Sand dollar house. Roshani and her family were the most welcoming and warm-hearted people and we felt very welcome. The location is good as well, just a short walk to the beach and nice restaurants. We would love to visit again!

Lovely property with everything you need. The hosts are really wonderful and so helpful. The location is good, just 10 mins from the surf beach (Hiri) and close to shops and restaurants. Breakfast is nice and fresh - and served in the property as it has its own lovely kitchenette style front.

Such a wonderful place to stay which even came with its own massive, private outdoor area. The family who owned it were so attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The property is in a perfect location and is walkable to beaches, lots of cafes, restaurants and bars. Will definitely be staying here again!

This is a beautifully presented property with everything that you might need. We agree with other reviewers who describe this as a ‘home away from home’. The setting is perfect, close enough to walk into town and far enough away to feel serene with monkeys, peacocks and other wildlife outside. Roshani and her family are just lovely people who will help with anything, not to mention cooking a lovely breakfast.

“Extremely warm and wonderful experience”

Lovely homestay run by a very humble family in Hiriketiya. They made sure that we feel welcomed, comfortable and helped us fully for each and everything from the start of the trip. We had a small kid with us and felt absolutely at home with the family. Lovely place and exceptional experience at Sand Dollar house :) would highly recommend to friends and family !

“The best stay and family in Sri Lanka!!!”

I would highly recommend this beautiful home stay. It’s a brilliant mix of a homestay and your own private apartment with an outside covered garden and kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The breakfast was absolutely delicious in the mornings. The host was so friendly and accommodating and made me feel so special on my birthday. They even Shared their children’s toys with my two year-old which he absolutely loved and enjoyed playing with their children. we would definitely stay again when we return to Sri Lanka in a few years time.

The owner and family were very welcoming and lovely people. Had great chats with the owner. The garden is beautiful with lovely areas to chill out and an outside shower. Breakfast was great and timings worked around us.
