“cockroaches on the kitchen counter...”
We rented here for a week, but honestly, it turned into quite a nightmare. First, we ran into two cockroaches on the kitchen counter, and later, a few more crawled out from under the coffee maker. They were huge! As you can imagine, we didn't want to touch anything in the kitchen or even drink a glass of water after that. The next morning, we told the house taker, Nimal, that we wanted to check out. Shockingly, he accused us of lying and demanded photos to prove there were bugs! I mean, why on earth would we want to ruin our holiday and leave for no reason? In the end, we had to pay the full amount just to get out of there, because there was no way we could stay under those conditions. Later on, Nimal actually called us and offered to refund half of our money if we promised not to leave a bad review. I'm not sure if we were just unlucky, as there are no other bad reviews here. But I should add that I’ve spent 2 months in Sri Lanka, mostly around the Hikkaduwa area, and you can definitely find much better places for this budget—especially if you are not a huge group. To be fair, the garden is lovely and the living room is nice, but the bedrooms feel really cramped and poorly furnished.
