This award-winning retreat in central Victoria's spa country offers a unique Japanese guesthouse experience featuring traditional accommodation, Japanese cuisine and luxurious spa treatments. Each room at Shizuka Ryokan features authentic straw tatami-mat flooring and an Engawa alcove with chairs and table that overlooks a private Japanese garden. The private en suite bathroom has a 2-person hot tub, a separate shower, traditional cotton yukata bathrobes and soft slippers. Guests can indulge in a range of holistic wellness and health treatments. Authentic traditional cuisine is served in the restaurant, which offers both Japanese and Western-style breakfasts. Shizuka Ryokan Japanese Country Spa & Wellness Retreat offers an atmosphere of peace and relaxation for all guests. Located in Hepburn Springs, it is a 5-minute drive to Daylesford.

The staff were wonderful, very accommodating, professional and friendly. The rooms were beautifully and authentically decorated and the bathrooms gorgeous. The food was the star of my stay. Authentic flavours exquisitely presented and tastes of some foods I've never had before.

As authentic as it can get if you're after a genuine Japanese experience in Australia. Lovely Japanese staff that showed true omotenashi hospitality. Rooms come with an ofuro bath overlooking your own private Japanese garden - what a bliss!

“A perfect retreat”
Breakfast and Saturday evening dining were tradional Japanese. The chefs are amazing and food something to savour. I have a need for gluten free which was handled efficiently and without any bother. Yoga, Massage and tradional bathing add to this unique experience

Japanese Room
Guests sleep on futon bedding laid over tatami straw mats, surrounded by shoji paper screens, zaisu chairs, zabuton cushions and a tokonoma alcove. An engawa veranda with chairs and table looks out onto a private Japanese garden, inviting quiet moments of reflection. Your room includes an indoor bath—a deep Japanese soaking tub— with organic bath salt. To encourage deep relaxation, there are no televisions or telephones in the guestrooms.
