Everything about this place met or exceeded expectations. The property is exceptionally clean and comfortable, the staff are amazing and very responsive and friendly. Tours organised through the property are well priced and a lot of fun.

One of the most special hotels we’ve visited! The whole property is absolutely beautiful, rooms are stunning and comfortable, breakfast and dinner are really great, and above all everyone is super nice and doing everything to make your stay nothing but exceptional. What a beautifully designed hotel, just outside Habarana. Very peaceful, the room was stunning with large balcony overlooking the paddy fields. The dining area & pool area fab. I used the spa too for a 2hr treatment & highly recommended. Staff so friendly & attentive & food great.

“Another lovely stay at a Taru Villas property.”

Our third stay at a Taru Villas property. Madu and the team did a great job of looking after us - thank you! The room was lovely, and it was a nice touch that someone was ready and waiting with a torch to walk us to the restaurant on an evening. We spent some time by the pool and it was lovely to see staff come round asking if we wanted anything to eat or drink; I'd noticed that some past reviews mentioned that this didn't happen so it's nice to see that management read these reviews and take action to improve the customer experience.

“Lovely hotel but could do better”

Very comfortable and clean bedrooms and friendly helpful staff. Located in countryside with native trees and vegetation around the grounds with visiting monkeys and many colourful resident birds. Well maintained swimming pool which was a welcome retreat.

“A very special experience balancing nature with comfort”

This hotel felt very special in several ways. The architecture and design is wonderful. It is inspired by the archaeological sites in the area and for us staying here brought some of that history alive. It has also been finished to a very high standard with quality materials and excellent lighting which gives the whole site a very calming atmosphere. The staff are incredible. They put a lot of work into maintaining the grounds, creating a lovely balance of nature and clean comfortable spaces. The food was the best we had during our stay in Sri Lanka, especially the sea food and Sri Lankan dishes. The chefs were happy to make accommodations for people’s preferences. It’s a small hotel which I think meant the staff were able to be more attentive to each of the guests, which again felt very special. You can walk along the lake to a nearby cafe which serves good cocktails and food if you feel like venturing out. It is definitely a more tranquil and calm hotel so bear that in mind when booking.

Staff were very friendly and attentive, location is stunning, the rooms are lovely and spacious and the hotel helped us to organise our trips to Sigiriya, Dambulla Temple Caves and the Elephant Safari, all of which were amazing, especially the safari - our guide Abtulla was extremely knowledgeable.

“Amazing paradise”

Lovely peppery nestles in the jungle. Accommodation was fantastic, the food was good and the staff super nice

Nestled amongst nature lies the hidden sanctuary of Taru Villas Maia. Offering peace and tranquility, we all finally relaxed after a week of tours, frenetic travel and daily jaunts. The rooms have been carefully designed to allow for an immersion natural experience with the only sound being that of the wildlife and the rustle of leaves and trees in the cool air. An architectural delight complimented by the most hospitable team who take care of yourself every need. Delicious organic cuisine, thoughtfully prepared with daily curated delicious menus. Dileesha, Andrew Danial, Tharusha, Chef Pradip and Mahendra made us feel at home. Our only regret- why didn't we stay longer? You simply must stay here, perfectly placed for a sunrise hike to Sigiriya and an afternoon elephant safari. Truly memorable, thank you team Taru Villas Maia.

“Pure luxury close to nature”

This is a very special place, I particularly enjoyed our second room that we were moved to, number 17. It was up on stilts and had a gorgeous balcony where we could admire so much wildlife and a huge variety of birds. The food was absolutely delicious and the chef very kindly shared one of his curry recipes with me. I’d like to mention especially Andrew who oversaw our stay with kindness and professionalism, and Thushara, whose warm smile and infectious good humour greeted us at the restaurant every day. The staff here all work so incredibly hard and you are always greeted with a genuine smile.

July 2nd, 2025 Our stay at this beautiful resort has been truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by a sense of serene peace and warmth. The entire team went above and beyond to make us feel at home, with outstanding service and genuine kindness. The safari experience with our ranger from the hotel was a highlight we will cherish forever. Her knowledge, passion and care made it an extraordinary memory. We are also deeply grateful for the compassionate way the resort handled the sudden and heartbreaking passing of my father. Allowing us to adjust our travel plans without hesitation meant the world to us during such a difficult time.
