It would have been fair and appropriate if the information about additional charges for towels and bed linen, cleaning fees (or the requirement to clean the property ourselves), and even extra charges for using the pool had been clearly disclosed before making the booking. There is a note on the account mentioning potential extra costs, but it is too vague — it could refer to breakfast, for example. In the end, we were charged for not cleaning the toilet, even though there was already yellow water running in it before our arrival, and we left it in exactly the same condition. The trash bag provided was smaller than the bin itself, so a few items missed the bag — perhaps providing a properly sized bag would avoid such issues. It seems we also failed to wipe down the sink — we acknowledge this serious oversight on our part. What’s more disappointing is that the floor was dirty when we arrived, but this did not seem to concern the hosts. All in all, it appears that the hosts are not prepared to carry out even basic cleaning themselves and rely entirely on departing guests to do it. This is the first time in many years of traveling that we’ve encountered such a situation.
