Overview
Located at 2,200 metres above sea level, Berggasthaus First offers panoramic views of the Jungfrau region and the Swiss Alps. It can be reached only by cable car from Grindelwald and is located in the same building as the cable car station. The Berggasthaus First offers simply furnished dormitory rooms with bright wooden furniture, shared bathroom facilities, a ski bar, and a lounge. Free WiFi is available in public areas and the guest house offers direct access to the ski slopes. Ski passes are not included in the room price. During the day, guests can sample Swiss dishes in the on-site restaurant and on the terrace. Half board includes a 3-course menu.

“Great location and staff, a few problems with the property and room”
Great location! Lovely to be on the top of the mountain when everyone else has left on the last cable car. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

“Terrific staying in the mountains”
Incredible staying. Mainly, of course, because of the energizing experience to spend the night at the mountain and explore a bit First and its cliffwalk without the so many visitors along the year. But our experience was even better with the so warming and cordial service from the staff, specially Domingos, who has been incredible with us and my daughter. Will never forget the time spent there.

“Amazing location, super comfortable and clean.”
Hard to beat location - the opportunity to be on the mountain once the crowds have left for the day is worth the price. Super clean and convenient. Staff are warm and friendly. More like a great hostel than a hotel.

“EVERYTHING was perfect! Book this stay!!”
EVERYTHING was so perfect when we stayed here! We knew it was going to be a good stay because of the location but it exceeded our expectations and more!! When we got there they told us we were the only guests staying the night - it was such a surreal experience and there was one worker Stanislav (aka Mike) that was working the night and he was exceptional. The service we got from him was amazing and he went above and beyond to make our stay special - so big big thank you to him! If anyone is thinking of booking to stay here please just do it - the whole experience of staying on top of the mountain and doing the activities like zip lining and mountain carting was incredible and we are trying to see when we can come back and book again!

“Very comfortable and pleasant.”
The view was magnificent and mountains peak just in front of window. I went for my birthday and they organized a very special birthday dessert and they were very much welcoming. I have shared a night view picture as well. I genuinely enjoyed stayed over there. Definitely recommend

“Highly recommend staying here!!”
Location is amazing! Snug bed in wooden alcove in dorm. Nice having the mountains to yourself after all the other tourists have gone down on the last cable car.

Super friendly staff. Even Adjusted the food last minute to match our preferences. Very welcoming and helpfull in every regard! The location is an absolute win. Perfect view towards eiger. An optimal stay in the swiss alps.

“Unforgettable location”
The location is absolutely exceptional — once the last cable car goes down, you have the entire mountain to yourself. Total peace and quiet, with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets all around. It’s the perfect spot if you want to enjoy Bachalpsee Lake without the crowds, as the cable cars start too late for sunrise and finish too early for sunset. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was decent with everything you need before a day of hiking. The only downside is the price, which is on the higher side — especially once you factor in the cost of the cable car to reach the hotel. Still, for the experience of having the mountain to yourself, it’s absolutely worth it.
