This island property is along the Arctic Circle, next to Grímsey Airport and 40 km off Iceland’s northern coast. It offers a restaurant, guest lounge and free public area Wi-Fi. Guesthouse Básar’s simple rooms have shared bathrooms. Guest can have tea or coffee in the communal kitchen or relax on the terrace. Laundry facilities are also available. Bird watching, sailing and sea angling are popular area activities. A fishing licence is included during a stay at Básar Guesthouse. A public swimming pool and 3-hole golf course are also found on the island.

“Beautiful friendly stay, so homely.”
An amazing place to visit and stay on Grimsey. We were picked up by the owner who had also made us fresh coffee and soup. It was such a wonderful, homely place. Th local people are so kind caring and helpful! GaGa the owner gave us lifts on several occasions to various parts of the island. The island and this hotel are definitely worth a visit!

The house was very lovely, welcoming and had a lot of space to enjoy the stay at. Gragga welcomed on Grimsey and made sure my stay at Basar Guesthouse was great and authentically.

Grimsey is small, and an amazing place for wildlife. Gagga, the owner, was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble - she's obviously a local and knows everything and everybody. Brilliant host, great location and excellent facilities.

“A wonderful escape from London.”
I had a blissful 25 hours in Grimsey. Just wished I could have stayed longer. Gagga such a wonderful host, and person. I had a lovely cosy room with a fantastic view. Everywhere was very clean, and the kitchen was very well stocked (including stove top espresso pot). Gagga picked me up from the ferry, explained the island’s history and gave me information on opening hours. When she took me back to the ferry she took me to see her flock of sheep - her husband is a shepherd. Thank you Gagga

Everything about my stay at Guesthouse Basar was exceptional. I cannot rate it high enough. The accommodation was impeccable, warm and comfortable, spotlessly clean. Gagga my host bent over backwards to make my stay enjoyable and memorable. She picked me up from the ferry, took me on a tour of the Island, provided all my meals and on the day of departure drove me back to the ferry. She was and is amazing. I have no hesitation in recommending Basar to future travellers. They will not be disappointed.

“Amazing friendly welcome and a great experience on a secluded island”
This stay was fantastic, we had the entire guesthouse to ourselves and Gagga made us feel super welcome - greeting us off the boat and driving us to the guesthouse. Grimsey is stunning and it was the perfect base to go exploring and walk round the whole island.

“Cosy stay near to the Arctic circle”
Extremely nice guesthouse with a great location on the island. Next to the airport, a few minutes walk to the town and the closest guesthouse to the arctic circle. From the kitchen in the guesthouse I was able to watch the whales feeding. It was a quiet location with all the things I needed. Great stay.

“Just GREAT!!!! I wouldn't mind staying there again!”
Basar - not at all a bazaar!!!! The GH is located outside the village. It's not far from the trail that follows the cliffs and that climbs up to the Arctic Cercle monument. The GH is right next to the airport terminal - very convenient when you fly in or out! Nice common facilities, kitchen well equipped.

“A unique place and a truly unforgettable, amazing experience”
If you get the chance to stay at the Guesthouse Basar, take it - you won't forget it. Grimsey is an amazing place and Gagga is at the heart of the community. She could not have done more for us, including picking us up from the boat and running us into the centre when we needed to go in if it was raining and we didn't want to walk. In fact, one day someone from the island offered my husband a lift when he was walking down to the shop, it's that kind of place. You can see large numbers of puffins very close by, even from the kitchen window. Everyone was friendly and our two night trip was truly unforgettable - thank you Gagga!
