“Cigarette Smell in a Non-Smoking Room and Drainage Odor in the Bathroom”

We were very disappointed with our stay. One of our two rooms (ours) had a strong cigarette smell despite being a non-smoking room, and the bathroom had a persistent drainage odor. When we asked to change rooms, we were told the hotel was full—but there were clearly no more than 10 guests at the time, so the explanation didn’t feel honest. The kids’ room was better—no smells, and overall okay. Both rooms were clean apart from a large stain on the carpet in the kids’ room, which looked like it may have come from a dog. The hallway carpets also had visible stains. Breakfast was a disappointment: very basic, with limited options and nothing fresh. Communication was a challenge. No one at reception or elsewhere seemed to speak English, except for one young waitress. That said, the young restaurant staff were polite and tried their best—they were the one bright spot during our stay. The hotel seems to be undergoing renovations, but there’s no real sign of progress. A ladder mentioned in an older review was still lying in the exact same spot in the hallway during our stay. One more point—not necessarily the hotel’s fault—but the listing on Booking.com claims it’s just a couple of kilometers from the chairlift to the Seven Rila Lakes. In reality, it’s over 1.5 hours away by car. This was a major disappointment, as we had planned our trip around that hike. That said, even though we didn’t get to see the Seven Rila Lakes, we did go on a beautiful 6-hour circular hike in the area. The nature was absolutely stunning and made the trip worthwhile in the end. Overall, though, the hotel fell well short of expectations in terms of honesty, service, and facilities. Definitely not worth the rating it claims.

We recently stayed at Hotel Malyovitsa and had a wonderful experience. The location was perfect, quiet and peaceful. The room was comfortable and well-maintained, with all the amenities we needed to feel right at home. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to offer their help. We especially appreciated the little touches. Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy and convenient place to stay. We can't wait to visit again!😊🙏🏻

“excellent ski-in/ski out for families”

large rooms with very comfortable beds, excellent mountain views, warm and cozy environment. the hotel is very accommodating to families with children. Ski in/ski out with options to rent equipment. The mountaineering museum is an excellent idea and a very cozy cafe.

Location could not be better, right in front of the ski track. The view from the lobby is fantastic - overviewing Malyovitsa peak. The museum of Alpinism is an outstanding idea! Room was quite spacious although it did not offer anything except the necessary. Food was delicious.

We did not stay at the Alpinist as they were under re-construction work. I'm sure they were aware of this work and rather than a refund they sent us to the other hotel Malyovista opposite.

We booked a Lux room with the mountain view, but there was only a view to the parking lot with some garbage and the room itself was located on the underground floor. When we arrived, there was no receptionist - only a note that we beed to check in at another hotel located 50 m higher. Our hotel itself was empty and dark. We had to go to the breakfast also to the other hotel. We cane because of the lobby-museum, which was also closed. Construction works are undergoing everywhere. When we came to complain to the receptionist, stating that we do not receive the service promised: no receptionist, no mountain view, no lobby, dangerous not finished stairs etc., receptionist from another hotel said we should have known that Alpinist is under reconstruction! That was not indicated anywhere on Booking. The receptionist admitted that the hotel is not ready for the guest, but said they cannot do anything about it. When we asked to change the room at least, they tried to scam us by "generously" offering a room in the second hotel, where the receptionist was located. I asked what about the price and they said, that they will cover extra cost as their apology for the inconvenience. I went to booking to check the price for the room they offered and it was actually 50 euros less than we already payed for the Lux room in Alpinist. I asked if they are trying to scam us and the receptionist just said, that they forgot oir room costs more. We asked if we could at least cancel the second night in this nightmare and only after long discussions they agreed to this also stating, that they will be loosing the money for this night, as it is already taken by Booking. Which in the end was not also true as per info from Booking support. Avoid those two places. Those are the worst in Bulgaria.
