This place is all about atmosphere - calm, warm, welcoming and relaxing. Surrounded by nothing but the fields, you can enjoy both sunrise and sunset views right from the doorsteps. It is very quiet and peaceful outside. The host, Takahashi-san, has bought this abandoned village house and carefully restored it with his own hands. The house doubles as a cafe during the day time, where locals come to enjoy good coffee and meals that Takahashi-san makes using local produce and ingredients. In return for his hospitality, locals are bringing all sorts of artifacts, from decorations to old furniture, shaping the unique atmosphere of the place - such a brilliant example of a rural community relationships. Oh, and there is a great public onsen nearby - Takahashi-san kindly provides complimentary tickets, as well as towels and toiletries.

“Beautiful location with an incredible host”

We loved our stay! Tanonagano Yadokko is in a beautiful, peaceful location in the rice fields with views of the Hakkōda mountains in the distance. Our host Shun Takahashi was incredible - very friendly, informative and accommodating. He is also an amazing cook - the dinner and breakfast were both home cooked and delicious. The Japanese style room was great. We were also given free tickets to the local onsen, which was a nice treat. We would definitely love to stay again!
