Situated in the peaceful countryside with lush greenery and wildflowers, 古民家の宿 ふるま家 Furumaya House Gastronomic Farmstay in Deep Kyoto provides charming Japanese-style guest rooms in a renovated thatched-roof farm house, which is more than 210 years old. This non-smoking property provides free Wi-Fi and free parking. JR Ayabe Station is a 15-minute bus ride away from the property. For those staying for multiple nights, free pick-up service from the station is also available upon request. Looking out to the gardens, one unit is fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding. A low table and seating cushions are included, and bathroom and toilet are shared with other guests. House Furumaya provides laundry facilities and free-use bicycles for guests’ convenience. Barbecue facilities are available at an additional charge with an advance request. The property offers hearty homemade dinner made with local ingredients in the dining room, where guests can sit around the fireplace.

Lovely hosts, great (vegetarian option) food, quiet remote location close enough to a city, hot bath....its hard to put it all in words...it was everything great into the smallest detail and great value for money!

“Warmth, nature & magic”
The warmth and hospitality was amazing - I had a lovely time & lovely chats. Felt really at home. The food was beautifully prepared and very generous - got to try sundried rice harvested from their own paddy across from the house (how special is that!?) and home-made plum liqueur, various pickles, and dishes I hadn't tried before all with local ingredients (so good!). After dinner curled up by the fire with a book and desert. The house itself is very charming and my tatami cozy. The walk from Furuyama back to Ayabe was really worth doing, the mountain is magic. As was the Tea ceremony, it felt really authentic and the lady who was my Tea Master (i forgot her name) was incredibly elegant, knowledgeable and generous. I wish I could have stayed longer; I will definitely be back!
