I had a very good stay at Mt Fuji Retreat MUKUtensha Fujinomiya and was happy with almost everything. The staff were excellent, very friendly and attentive. The towels, bed, and pillows were all of high quality and very comfortable. I also enjoyed the music and the variety of games available, which made the stay feel fun and relaxing. What was unique about this place is that it is designed for only one group per stay, so we were the only guests in the entire property. This was something I had never experienced before and gave it a very private, exclusive feel. However, at night, the surrounding area was very quiet, and the isolation felt a little unsettling at times. Overall, it was still a memorable and enjoyable stay, and a truly unique experience.

“A Warm and Thoughtful Stay”

Before my arrival, the host kindly sent me detailed information about the local weather and nearby area. After I arrived, they were very friendly and helpful. I was also warmly welcomed with a handwritten letter prepared in my own language, which was such a thoughtful touch. The neighborhood was quiet, with many nice places to walk around and plenty of great restaurants nearby. In the evening, I could enjoy various drinks in the lobby and had a wonderful time in a cozy atmosphere. Breakfast the next morning was clean, simple, and delicious. It’s definitely a place I’d love to visit again.

This is not an acceptable hotel its a bedsit attached to a art gallery in a car park beside the world heritage site. Staff fabulous clean but when they turn on he security at 8.30 your on own.

Everything. We absolutely loved our stay – it was the highlight of our trip. Everything was beautifully prepared, and the view of Mount Fuji and the torii gate was simply breathtaking. The place had a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere, and every detail showed great care. A truly special experience we’ll never forget!

“Best Honeymoon Ever”

Muku is the best retreat experience I’ve ever had. We honeymooned here and the staff made it special with some sweet gifts, hand written note and a personalised wooden coaster. Endo went above and beyond to assist us and helped us with site seeing suggestions and restaurant recommendations. The property itself has a unique wooden design that’s very warm and inviting. The bathroom was the highlight of the property. It had a lay down sauna, deep bath tub and a large shower. The morning breakfast was amazing, one day was a selection of traditional Japanese breakfast and the following day was western style. There is even electric bikes so you can zoom around town in. Although the staff spoke limited English, they communicated effortlessly with the help of google translate.

Everything, from the modern and minimalist design, to the breakfast, the views and the calmness. But the highlight goes to the hospitality, with the staff always available and kind. If I could, I would come back every month.

Service and the exclusiveness

The property was fantastic, one of the best accommodations we have stayed at. The natural aroma of the wood as soon as you enter is instantly soothing, and the private sauna, rain shower and bathtub make for the most relaxing experience with the property being the perfect pit stop in the middle of your trip to unwind. The tatami area upstairs is also great to relax in as it has a view of Mt. Fuji, a balcony and a vinyl player amongst other activities such as board games and reading materials. The complimentary drinks and snacks were delicious and the breakfast every morning was well thought out and presented beautifully with each item being explained to us. I loved the skincare products provided in the bathroom! There was also a gallery/ art exhibition on during our stay which was a nice little addition. Despite having a language barrier (we did not speak any Japanese), we found the whole experience to be seamless from start to finish. The staff were incredibly helpful and arguably took the whole experience to another level! Being anxious about the frequency of local trains, we were able to contact the property prior to our stay to arrange to be picked up from the Shin-Fuji station. After picking us up, Gotou was kind enough to take us sightseeing to some of the local spots (and each one had the most beautiful view of Mt. Fuji which is massive and majestic in person!). Ogushi also looked after everything we needed and answered all our questions - even helping us with maps and recommendations of activities and offering to take us places if we needed! I am a vegetarian and in noting this, Ogushi had already printed out menus (highlighting the vegetarian options) and contacted local restaurants that offer vegetarian options. We got takeaway on the first night and like any other hotel we expected to grab the bag and go inside the room but Ogushi (being the wonderful host she is) had set everything up beautifully on the lounge table for us to enjoy.
