Overview
Surrounded by rainforest and mountains, Chateau Backpackers & Motels offers an outdoor fire pit, BBQ facilities and a guest lounge with a fireplace. Just 10 minutes’ walk from the Waiho River, it offers free WiFi and free parking on site. The hostel offers free vegetable soup each evening/ The free breakfast includes cereals, milk, toast and coffee. There are also a number of restaurants within a 15-minute walk. Guests can choose between ‘pod’ dormitory rooms or private rooms with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster and electric kettle. Most rooms also have a TV. The pods feature a privacy curtain, a power point and a USB port. The property offers 2 communal kitchens, TV lounges with satellite channels,a deck, as well as a book exchange and video library. The tour desk can provide sightseeing advice and book local activities.

“Basic and cheap accommodation in Franz Josef”
Basic accomodation in a quite old motel, but the room was really warm. Shared toilet and shower. Kitchen available, quite old but functional with free rice, pasta, oats, coffee, tea and sugar.

Great location, kitchen facilities great with everything you need, complementary staples as well as coffees cakes etc. Host was very helpful and clearly working hard to be on top of everything.

Really friendly and helpful staff, gave us great recommendations for our trip and onward journey too. Facilities are great, well stocked kitchen with cupboard staples available. Afternoon tea and snacks also provided! Really enjoyed our stay.

I’m so sorry I didn’t take his name, but the manager was brilliant, really informative on things to do in the local area. The place is a bit tired, but you know about it from the photos when booking. Great price and location . The spa was an added bonus.
