“Take a magical desert trip with Mokhtar and friends.”
Let Mokhtar take you away on a desert adventure. His wit and hospitality makes this a very special trip. He arranged for us, a family with two small children, to be picked up in Foum Zguid by our driver Abdelkader. He took us for a drive along rock formations, mountains and oasis. Because of our interest in wildlife he made sure he could show us a lot. Big and small lizards, wild dromedary camels and donkeys, all kinds of birds. We drove over the dry Iriki lake and went searching for the ubiquitous fossils. About 3 hours later we arrived at Mokhtars house in a Bedouin village at the foot of a mountain. We relaxed there during the hottest hour of the days and got to know his family. He also arranged for a guid Paris, with knowledge of may languages and he took us on a tour of the village and told us about village life now and before. We ate a wonderful couscous lunch and at the end of the afternoon we left for the camp in the dunes. There were comfortable tents with good beds and two sit down toilets and two shower rooms. Such luxuries for the desert. Achmed came with his camels for a sunset ride in the dunes which was magical. Paris and Mokhtar prepared an amazing dinner outside in de dunes. We were the only visitors so we had the place to ourselves. The children were playing the whole time. Surfing the dunes on a board was most spectacular for them. But also all the scarabs and just rolling of the dunes was a blast! In the evening the stars were so pretty. Highly recommend!

“Welcome oasis on the Oued Draa”
Bivouac cote-iriki is a welcome oasis on the dramatic route from Foum Z’Guid to M’Hamid. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and dawn camel ride in the dunes.

Super welcoming hosts. Never felt so genuinely welcomed in Marocco before. Location is great, dunes are amazing. You can get a „surf board“ for free, which is so much fun riding down the dunes. The dinner (150 dhm per person) was exceptional, cooked by the host himself, who is a learned cook. You get as much free water as you may need. The tents are spacious and (considering it’s the desert) very clean. Facilities were basic but well-maintained and exceptionally clean. But point is: you probably read this to compare camps. We looked in to many offers and compared prices. They are all roundabout the same. The shuttle to the camp (from Foum-Zguid) is 130€ (including both directions for two person). The drive itself was 2 hours and already worth it on its own. Super respectful driver, who was very knowledgeable about the nature we drove through. All in all we paid 200€ for 2 person, 1 night, dinner, breakfast and shuttle. After staying the price seems totally legit. We would 100% recommend this camp. You won’t find it much cheaper but first and foremost it is just a very great camp. Also, all the hosts are born in a village nearby, and you could really see how much they care about their nature and home. You can pay both, in € and in Dhm. In the camp you can communicate in English and French (also a little bit of Spanish, we were told).

“Stargazing, sandboarding, food, dunes, camel rides”
Mokhtar and Faress were the most hospitable hosts we could have hoped for. They both went above and beyond throughout our stay, and helped us get to and from the remote location via some difficult roads. Absolutely fantastic homegrown, organic freshly cooked food throughout our stay. This place is a real gem in an absolutely beautiful location and we can’t recommend it enough. It is the perfect place to stay for people looking for an adventure and wanting to get a genuine insight into Moroccan Desert life. Facilities are completely adequate considering the remoteness of the stay. We hope to be back very soon!

“Beautiful way to experience the desert”
Moktar is a very warm and welcoming host. He organized the shuttle for us (120Euro there and back for the 4x4 including lots of explanations and stops in different beautiful points) and everything went very smooth. Could get breakfast, lunch and dinner made by himself using the veggies and fruits of his own little garden. Beautiful experience in the desert and in a very friendly surrounding by a host born in the area building up a new business he is passionate about. Very recommendable!

“Truly authentic desert experience”
This was a beautiful and very special stay, much more comfortable and “luxurious” than we initially expected, especially considering the remote desert location. Everything you need is provided: towels, drinking water, and upon arrival you are welcomed with tea and snacks such as chickpeas and dates, which immediately makes you feel at home. The owner is incredibly welcoming. He only speaks French, but we managed to communicate very well, especially as I speak some Moroccan Arabic. We ended up having breakfast and dinner together, chatting for a long time, which made the experience even more meaningful. The place is family-run. The owner manages the camp together with his brother, who is in charge of the kitchen. Occasionally the owner’s wife also helps, although we didn’t personally meet her. He shared many stories with us about how this project was created thanks to government funds that support local people in developing sustainable initiatives. With the help of his family and these funds, he was able to open this small bivouac, starting with the first four tents and building shared bathroom facilities. The bathrooms are shared but clean, and it is impressive to see what they have managed to create in such a remote environment. They are even working towards providing hot showers. The experience itself is wonderful. This is a real sand-dune desert, not a rocky or semi-desert area. It is a true sea of sand dunes, exactly like the desert you see in documentaries. You are surrounded by dunes, silence and vast open space. They also organise camel tours, although we chose not to do one and instead enjoyed walking barefoot in the sand and simply immersing ourselves in the desert. The owner organises the transport to reach the camp. We departed from Foum Zguid, and Abdu came to pick us up in a 4x4. The journey is already part of the experience, with a couple of stops along the way: one at a beautiful oasis and another at the dried Lake Iriki, where you can see...

“Better than we dreamed. Highly recommended. Personal, not yet affected by the tourist madness.”
Thank you for everything we could experience in the desert. Our family with three children will remember it for a long time. The perfect service started long before our arrival. The owner asked us in advance about our needs, transportation, food, camel ride. And everything turned out better than we could have wished for. Transportation: We expected an hour-long direct journey to the campsite. In the end, it was an incredible three-hour journey, when we stopped at a well in the oasis, at the nomads', where we could buy their products. The highlight was an iguana that ran across our path and the nimble driver stopped and caught it so we could pet it. The driver was a great professional and very helpful and pleasant. Food: first the best harira, then a huge pot full of tagine and finally fruit for dessert. And breakfast? Delicious eggs. Camel ride: We also booked a camel ride. it was well timed, at sunset. The guys who accompanied us were pleasant. Overnight stay: even though we visited the camp in February and it was cold at night, the tent equipment was sufficient, several blankets, we really didn't feel cold. Of course we got up for the sunset, which was beautiful. Other: the possibility of snowboarding and other activities are a matter of course. To sum it up, we give 11 stars out of ten :-)

“Friendly, incredible, affordable”
We were picked up from a very experienced driver who knew the roads very well. The ride was incredible. We ate at one of the organisers family's home who put together a very warm cous cous. We then were toured around the nature and ruins of the deserts including fallen down settlements and lakes. The night in the desert was incredible, with excellent food and comfy beds. And they choose a quieter place than other organisations so you really do feel the quiet desert. They were very friendly and treated us as if we were part of their family. They were very funny hosts. Similarly, the total experience was very affordable and made us save lots on this trip. Thank you to all involved. Crimo
