“Great and cozy local experience”

The place feels like home away from home. The décoration is perfectly adapted. The room was clean with a very comfy bed: I slept like a baby! Even the bathroom is beautiful with all equipment needed. The host was the cherry on the cake: she is very friendly and welcoming. I had a great time and recommend to anyone visiting north of Iceland.

According to the recommendations, we knew more or less what to expect. But our experienced went far beyond. Hrefna and Árni are passionated hosts, hopening the doors of their house (and their kitchen) to procure a genuine and warm hospitality, interesting talks and georgous breakfast and dinner. Rather than going from hotel to hotel, consider the Asar Guesthouse as an ideal base while exploring the region over a few days. We should be back there for sure !

“Best rating for the best accommodation in Iceland”

The accommodation is a marvel, a luxury located next to Akureyri, the location is superb. Hrefna, the hostess, is charming and is super attentive that guests are happy. She makes breakfast daily and everything is homemade, I think it is one of the best I have ever tasted. There was one day that we could not enjoy it because we had an excursion and Hrefna prepared it for us to take away with us. Everything is very clean and the accommodation has a hot tub. We could also leave the car in front of the house. Regarding the decoration I must say that it is magnificent, it is a very cozy accommodation and the quality of the beds is very good. All in all, top marks to Hrefna, her husband (who is also very charming) as well as to the accomodation.

It’s our second time at Ásar - We have the most wonderful time at this guesthouse. The room was spotlessly clean, warm, and incredibly comfortable — exactly what you need after a day of exploring Iceland’s rugged beauty. The hosts were absolutely fantastic and truly couldn’t do enough for us — warm, welcoming, and full of great local tips. They even asked if we wanted the hot tub filling for our return after long days. The lounge spaces are inviting, comfortable and decorated with care. Breakfast each morning was fresh, generous, and delicious — easily one of the best we’ve had while traveling. Homemade, granola, breads and cakes are a real treat. And the hot tub was wonderful, it was speck free of the tiniest debris, which in itself is an achievement. This place feels more like staying with thoughtful friends than just a guesthouse. Can’t recommend it highly enough — we’ll definitely be back! We love it, it will become our ‘go to’ if we’re in the area.

The owner is nice and helpful. The accommodation is like home, we really appreciated the possibility of a thermal bath. I would also like to highlight the excellent breakfast. Takk.

“Lovely stay”

Very welcoming and sympathic guest with many caring details. Best breakfast we had during our trip. Rooms are very confortables and very clean.

I stayed here when I traveled through Iceland the first time and it was the first guesthouse I booked for the second time. The hosts are amazing and make you feel like you are visiting friends in their home. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, they have a hot tub with great view of the northern lights (if you are lucky) and still serve the best breakfast in Iceland. Hope to come back here to stay for longer.

“Most beautiful accommodation in Iceland”

I have stayed in many five star hotels around the world and none compare to this beautiful guesthouse. You walk into a cosy homely heaven. All the breakfast is homemade and the most beautiful home decor at every turn. We had two children with us and made to feel very welcome. No one should spend one night definitely atleast two and it will be your favourite accommodation the whole holiday.

“Amazing Hosts in a Wonderful Calm and Beautiful setting”

Hrefna & Arni were the ultimate hosts and made our short stay beautiful. We loved their guest house which is located about 7k outside of the city in a beautiful spot. It is quiet and calm which we loved. The house is like "going home" and I would suggest a longer stay if possible as you won't want to leave. Our room was comfortable, well appointed and bed very comfortable. But the best part is the morning farm to plate breakfast with fresh fruits. homemade breads, lamb pate, cheeses, the list goes on. Hrefna loves food so if you do to this is the place for breakfast which is included. We obviously didn't want to leave.
