“Great location and social hostel”

Breakfast provided was great. Social hostel with fun evening activities. Very helpful staff (a special shoutout to Rashmi)

Good place to stay. We had to work remotely and the wifi worked perfectly in the common areas (but not so well in the room). The staff was really friendly. They do activities all the time and the breakfast is superb. It has parking and they help you park your tuk tuk because the entrance is very steep, but you can do it on your own if you have some experience. Last but not least, location is very central.

“Social vibes in Ella”

- Lovely social vibe at the hostel; on the day of your check in, you'll get added to their Whatsapp group where you get information about all the activities they organize, family dinners, movie nights, bonfire etc. (Worth participating, especially as a solo traveler - you'll get to know some nice people!) - Mosquito nets were appreciated and gave some privacy in the dorms as well - Perfect location right in Ella town; yes, there are some stairs but I didn't mind them and you'll get a nice view as a reward ;) - Free coffee&tea and delicious local breakfast - Two lovely hostel dogs who love cuddles !!

“Peaceful”

I Loved this place, the room was really big with a huge comfortable bed. It was spotlessly clean with a nice bathroom. The family were welcoming and greeted you with smiles & hello. Close to everything in Ella but away from the noise of the centre. What more could you want, I would return in a heartbeat! Thank you for a wonderful stay ✨

Very clean, very good breakfast, amazing family dinners and nice social area to meet people. One extra shower and toilet for everyone outside the dorms. Staff is lovely. Cute hostel dogs and cat.

The beds were so comfy and overall the room was so clean. There was a really nice area to socialise in and the staff were very helpful. Location wise very central so 1min down into the townbit.

Gihan and his staff provide a relaxed and social atmosphere. The activities throughout the day and evening are well planned and thoughtful. While I was there, I celebrated my birthday and Gihan went above and beyond to make the evening really fun and inclusive. The dorms were clean and comfortable. Thanks again for a lovely stay in Ella.

The best hostel I stayed in whole Sri Lanka! Comfy beds, great location and everything in walkable distance, delicious included breakfast, chill vibe but still lots of common activities offered by the hostel. I enjoyed the cooking class, all family dinner and especially the Christmas evening. Gihan and the staff are amazing and will help you with anything. Thank you so much, you are the best!

“Tolles Hostel !”

The hostel is located right next to a bus stop. You only have to walk up a few stairs from there. It is very centrally located, but thanks to its elevated position you still have your privacy and can enjoy the peace and quiet. Group activities take place almost every day. Breakfast varies slightly from day to day, and you can help yourself to filtered water, tea, and coffee at any time. Soft drinks are also available, but of course have to be paid for when checking out. Two sweet dogs round off the atmosphere.

Absolutely loved my stay at Hive! Gihan really went above and beyond to make our experience extra special, organising activities and keeping us in the loop with everything going on in Ella. Really felt like a family. Beds were also comfy and the common area is great to hang out in. Free breakfast differed each day and was DELICIOUS! Love that they have games available too.

Lovely room and clean bathroom. The shared space was really homely. The ‘family’ dinner was fun. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Very sociable hostel!

The main selling point of this hostel were the staff, they were so welcoming and made sure that everyone was included in group meals and activities if they wanted to be, creating a real family feel.

We were only there for a night but the hosts made us feel right at home and we enjoyed their excellent Sri Lankan breakfast in the morning! The room was nice enough and the air-con worked :)

The best hostel we stayed at in Sri Lanka so far! It has a really friendly and social vibe — it’s super easy to meet people, and there’s always something going on. The dorms were clean, comfortable, and well-kept, which made it easy to relax after long days out exploring. The owner is incredibly involved and genuinely cares about every guest. He always made sure we felt welcome, gave us great local tips, and even helped with our bags and drove our tuktuk up and down the hill whenever we needed it. There were loads of fun and diverse activities throughout the week: movie nights, a visit to the local monastery, a Sri Lankan cooking class, yoga sessions, family dinners, bonfires, and even a delicious traditional breakfast every morning. Would definitely stay again :)
