Lovely studio in a senior residence in Dunkirk. Very comfortable

Réidence Domitys is in the centre of Dunkirk. I was travelling by bike and there is a secure area where I could store my bike. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. The apartment was clean and comfortable. I also enjoyed chatting to the residents.

Check in was easy, the receptionist was helpful, the two bedroom apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. The pool and sauna was an added bonus, we loved it and would definitely return.

Booked the property so we could have cooking facilities and WiFi : We arrived on 16th and got into our room. We went to unpack and make our tea for the night Salad, potatoes and steak and we also ingredients to make a full English for two days and various items to make picnics/sandwiches. So we had paid our considerable amount of money on food and extras like cooking oil, bread etc . We were unable to use any of our food and were then out of pocket twice over as we now had to pay out for lunch and dinner which we had not anticipated . Along with this there was no WiFi and my wi husband who works remotely had to spend the best part of 2 hours both days in a cafe/bar to use their WiFi . I have included pictures of what Utensils were available CLEARLY no frying pan, No lid on saucepans to drain the food or cullinder or large spoon/ladle to scoop the food out . It was basically dangerous to cook the potatoes as we had no way of getting them out of the boiling water no sharp knife to cut the ingredients or a large bowl to place the salad in, no wine glasses We went to reception to advise we were short of necessary utensils and unable to cook or get on the WiFi . We were found 2 wine glasses and. Crepe pan , not only was it of a standard I did not want to use (see picture ) it was also not practical . I explained this was not good enough but she said she could do no more and she would pass on my request tommorrow to the manager . The following morning I went to reception again as we were wanting to get our food prepared and also sort out the WiFi so my wife could get her work out the way so we could go out. I was told flat out when I showed photos of standard Utensils I expected he told me clearly that is all you need and have we so not have anything else . I explained I was unable to prepare food and we would now have to eat out ! and that i was unable to log onto the wifi. he shrugged his shoulders and told me there was wifi.

“Delights in Dunkirk”

We loved the facilities and location. Be aware that this is a dual purpose residence - it also is home to a number of elderly guests. Plenty of free transport options outside the place to take you to the city centre and surrounds. The Dunkirk War Museum 1940 is only 5 to 10 minutes by taxi and worth visiting. There is a free bus that goes to De Panne station in Belgium which is also 20 mins by taxi. On Saturdays there is a market right next door. The reception staff were very helpful.

Fantastic accommodation, but we were surprised to find we had booked into vacant rooms in an elderly people's home. Nevertheless the accommodation was spacious and great. Close to the centre and the port. The room was very clean, and the verandah was huge, everything except A/C in the room but it was warm. Local bus transport is all free and excellent to look about. Check out the tourist information centre at the clock tower, climb to the top when the bells are ringing. The Dune Fort on C1 bus line is worth a look.

“Great trip to Dunkirk”

We arrived very late at night and luckily met with a young lady who was working on the desk who was incredibly helpful even though we don’t speak French & she didn’t speak English. Lovely hotel room with separate lounge and great bathroom. Great location

We hadn't realised it was a senior home but one of the benefits of that was a quiet building. Had really peaceful good nights sleep

The studio flat was very comfortable, and the price very reasonable. It was a good base for visiting Bruges and Ostende. The reception staff were also very polite and helpful. Plus, there was free parking in a gated secured garage underneath the building. Do however note that this is a residential home for old people but they rent out some spare rooms. Booking.com clearly stated this on their website.
