At first I was worried about stepping outside during the night. I thought it would be cold and inconvenient. But the night sky was absolutely beautiful. A great location

“Relaxing and wonderful getaway”

This place was absolutely dreamy! My partner and I adored staying at the bird hide. The room was cozy and perfect, we had a great time bird watching, and the stars were gorgeous at night. The breakfast was very generous too! We stayed for 2 nights and we are so glad that we took the time to slow down and unwind at the bird hide! Honestly we couldn't possibly recommend this place more.

Beautiful location with fantastic views. Great walks through the lagoon and out to Waikouaiti beach, and easily walkable to the shops in Waikouati itself. Very convenient access to State Highway 1, easy drive to and from Dunedin when needed. Comfortable and cosy.

It was a lovely experience with a beautiful room and the dorm was extremely cozy!

The location was great. We appreciated being situated right on the edge of the lagoon. The room was very clean and tidy, the bed was comfortable and the little fireplace kept the room very warm. The continental breakfast was delicious.

Very quiet and peaceful location with a lovely view of the lagoon. The sound of the bird life was beautiful. An amazing beach just a short walk away.

We loved the cuteness and quaintness of The Bird Hide, it's position looking over the lagoon and the cleanliness was superb. Very novel. The local pub for tea, the cafe for coffee and cheese rolls. Perfect. Hosts very friendly and available if required, but weren't needed as they had thought of everything. We were seeking peace and back to nature, and that's what we had. We would recommend for a little getaway.

Beautifully set up, clean, new, fresh, stylish, private and cosy. Felt like a really special welcoming place that I could really relax in. Owners respected my privacy the whole time, I felt safe and I had everything I needed.

Wow, what a location if you like birds. Up at 5am taking photos of local birds from inside the "hide" on the garden flowers a few feet away! Its cosy,something different with a really comfy bed, very clean and has a good bathroom and kitchen/eating area a few feet away in the owner's home. This has a private entrance.

The bird hide is a wonderful property in a truly beautiful location. The cabin is wonderfully cozy and the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom likewise has everything you need and was super clean. Can’t overstate how much we enjoyed our time at the bird hide.
