Nice brewery hotel. Very basic but clean and comfy. Coffee/tea kettle in room.

“A well located hotel, but.....”

While the hotel was fine, I was disappointed to find that the restaurant was not open - if this was advised to me in advance I do not know how - and I was also very disappointed with the service in the beer garden. A Google search will confirm that I am by no means the only person to find the staff unnecessarily surly and unpleasant.

Breakfast was a step below basic. My experience was a toaster with bread cut so thick that didn't fit, condiments that looked like they've been there for decades, didn't fancy any of the hot things, eggs and sausages didn't look very nice at all. But at least the coffee machine was passable. The only beer seemed to be Dobransky which was not great - having Pilsen beer nearby draws obvious comparisons... location however is great. Only ate at the hotel one night, the schnitzel was unremarkable. Bed was OK but the pillow was like a loose bag of washing, more lumpy than I've ever experienced before, and made for a very uncomfortable night's sleep. The curtains were too thin to block any of the 5 AM sunlight, and no AC means a sticky time in the heat of the morning. OK on a tight budget, or if you really like to drink a lot, but I can't see me returning any time soon.

When we arrived, we were greeted by a very nice lady. You would think that in the hospitality industry, when you arrive tired in the evening, you would go through a routine check-in, since the host was also tired because he had worked all day. However, the lady working at the hotel welcomed us very kindly after a long journey and made us happy with her kindness. After that, we had dinner and a few beers, which was perfect. Excellent food, and the quality of the locally brewed beer was also first class. The room we got was very good for the price. The breakfast was also adequate and the lady who prepared the breakfast was very nice. This hospitality profession is difficult, but it seems that these people like working in this place and do everything in their power to ensure that satisfied guests leave here. I was in the Czech Republic for a week on business, I stayed in a different place every day, this was the most outstanding place in terms of price and quality.

Hotel is located just in the center of the town! Your door lead on central square, no joke! First floor is the beer shop where you can taste the green beer!

Nice beer garden with big selection of local beers, quiet little town. Staff was friendly but very busy. Room was simple and clean.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, smiling even at busiest moments. The environment with the home brewery was really romantic, the home-made beer really fine (although I'm not a fan of beer), the foods we've tried also fine - everything OK :)

I booked this place for my husband and here is what he has written about it: "The Hotel Modrá Hvězda, situated right on the main square of Dobřany, was a welcoming place. In truth, in such a rural location, there was not much English spoken, but the manageress and the barmaid both had patience with my somewhat hesitant Czech and I was soon checked in and shown to my simple, but spotlessly presented room. The number of rooms was surprisingly large and, where I was staying was actually above the building next door. Admittedly, it was out of season, but I thought that what I got represented excellent value for money and I had a beautiful view of the illuminated town square from my window. The downstairs was both a bar and a restaurant and, for once, I half-regretted having had a meal before I set off because all the food looked delicious. The tables were all crowded and the plates were going back empty! As there was a brewery on the premises, there was a large selection of beers available. Some of these were VERY strong. I tried the Dobřanská Hvězda 12 degree beer and it was excellent. I slept well in my comfortable bed which had a point winning firm pillow. Because I had to leave quite early, the manageress started breakfast half an hour early, so I could have some before I left. It was a simple, but filling combination of the usual “continental”, nicely presented and tasty. I was also provided with properly boiling water for my tea bag, which always earns a bonus point with me. It was a nice little place and I already know where I will be staying next year!"

The dinner was nice, clean room, good parking for bikes in the courtyard. Central location
