“Beautiful house, nice room but overpriced.”

As a huge fan of Gabriel García Márquez, I loved the concept of Casa de Remedios la Bella. Of course, Remedios did not have her own home, but I could totally see her living in a place like that. There are beautiful murals of Remedios and the butterflies on the walls, and their whole house-turned-hotel has a positive, happy vibe. The house looks like half a house, actually. It's [ shaped, with a central half-courtyard, and a wall separating it from the house next door. It has several levels and by climbing to the roof deck you can see all the way to the sea. The house has a casual elegance but, unfortunately, it was too hot in Barranquilla to enjoy either the patio or the outdoor sitting area outside our room. Our large triple room was fantastic. It looked to the street and I think it must have been someone's living room or office in a past life. It had a beautiful built-in wall cabinet, with shelves. It'd been better if it'd had books or adornments, but that would be a pain to dust. There as also a built in closet where they keep extra blankets and supplies. The AC and wi-fi worked well. The beds were your standard Colombian hard. Breakfast was very nice, though standard Colombian. It was my first experience with cayeye, a specialty of the Colombian Caribbean region, which I didn't like, but I appreciated the opportunity to try it. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the main plaza which is surrounded by restaurants. It's a safe and easy walk. There was easy street parking outside.

Amazingly beautiful property and excellent value for this stunning hotel. Staff were incredibly helpful and a wonderful breakfast, wish we could have stayed for longer! Much more to see in Cienaga than most realise too!
