We received a warm welcome after a long journey and had an interesting conversation with our charming hostess who was eager to please. The room had character with a comfortable bed and everywhere was very clean. The garden courtyard was a splash of green with leafy shade all lovingly cared for. A very pleasant over night stop. Lovely rambling house, stylish, with beautiful relaxing garden space. Maria provides organic products, and place was very clean. Quiet village, safe parking for our motorbike.

No breakfast. Was told there was nowhere to get breakfast in the town but there was a cafe open not far from the hotel.

Plunge pool very welcome after a very hot drive, set in a lovely garden, a hidden oasis! Location close to river Duero, fantastic views (especially whist enjoying a perfect coffee & pastry from the window seat at Xokoreto cafe. 👌) Great for walking & fishing. Check out the amazing cave & bodega tour from the lady opposite La Panaderia (bread shop) who also sells local produce, wine, nuts, honey, olive oil, etc. Maria is a very friendly, welcoming host. An intelligent, kind, animal-loving lady who is doing amazing things with her eco-friendly ways.

Maria has made a wonderful, interesting place to stay. The outside is full of lovely details, and the inside has everything we needed. The village is quiet, and next to the river Duro. The weather wasn't the greatest, so it didn't look its best, but it was still interesting!

The location was great, very comfortable beds and a warm welcome. We found a shop for bread for breakfast, but a little disappointed that bread and fruit wasn’t included.

Such a lovely place very clean and comfortable. Maria was so accommodating with everything and helped us find a place to eat dinner which was within walking distance and so delicious! The garden is very beautiful and tranquil. We will definitely stay again!

“A treasure and a jewel on the Douro river.”

A hidden treasure. The house is beautifully set up and beautifully and lovingly decorated in country style, like in a magazine and everything one needs is there.The beds were really comfortable and I slept like a baby. It was the middle of winter with frost outside, so the warmth inside was appreciated and also the underfloor heating in the living room. Maria, the lovely owner, always eager to oblige, has created a beautiful home and also spent a lot of her love on the outside spaces, a garden and a courtyard that she planted and decorated in the moorish style with fountains of running water. She has a right to be proud of her work. Too bad, it was too cold for us to sit outside and enjoy the gardens with a glass of wine. Although Maria does not offer breakfast, she runs a little shop nearby from which she offered us coffee (for heating up in the microwave) and home baked sweet bakeries for breakfast. If she offers you her bakeries, do not refuse. You will not be disappointed. I want to go back for more, especially for the lemony almond rounds and also the chocolate brownies. We were on our way to Andalucia, but I wish I could have stayed longer, just for the comfort and the experience. I wish we could have carried Maria's place with us during our travels, truly a home from home (and I'm not one to gush and exaggerate). Had it been warmer, we could have appreciated the location of Castelnuno right on top of the Douro river more and gone for longer walks. But it is still a lovely setting.

Nestled in the quaint charm of Castronuño, this rural guest house is a delightful haven. The comfort and full amenities provided make it a home away from home, ensuring an enjoyable stay. The spacious outdoor area at the rear is a sunny paradise, perfect for relaxation. Maria, the lovely owner, adds a personal touch with her warmth and helpful nature. For those of you that don’t fancy cooking or eating out, give Maria enough notice and she will happily provide home cooked meals using the finest bio ingredients. Many of which are home grown on their own farm. I can highly recommend the Carrot Cake With the Douro river just a stone's throw away, the stunning walks further enhance the experience. The wonderful warm welcome despite us (and our bikes) being muddy from a days biking. A very beautiful home and garden (including cold water outside plunge pool to help our tired muscles!). Excellent secure bike storage provided in a secure walled garden. A fabulous stay and a very kind lovely host.

This was a very unique experience and I was so lucky to find such a beautiful Casa in which to stay. Maria, the host, is amazing, not just in looking after her guests, but also in her passion for her projects and her passion for life. I could not rate this property highly enough. It was a wonderful experience.
