A short distance to town made the location quiet (far enough away) but walkable so imbibing at a high quality restaurant on main street could be accompanied by alcohol. Garden and deck made a cold wettish stay still near idyllic

“A fabulous base in the Wairarapa, well worth a stay”
The Alchemist Retreat is a superb studio dwelling tucked behind a stately residence in Carterton. The interior is done in a french style and has been finished with considerable attention to detail. Loved the fact there was no TV so we played some LPs from the collection. The location is an easy walk to town but there is a daairy across the road if you need something in a hurry. Carterton is a good place to base yourself to explore the Wairarapa. Its cheaper than Greytown and Martinborough but only a short drive to both.
