Ecluse de l’Ile is a perfect place to stay for anyone cycling the canal de Nantes a Brest. The canal itself is an incredible feat of engineering. The countryside is magnificent. One is surrounded by birdsong, wildlife, tranquility. An Ecluse is a lock keeper’s home. We passed so many on our journey. Each one evokes the history of the canal, the people who lived nearby and those who continue to give it love and care. In that sense staying in an Ecluse, modernised, yet rooted to its past, was a privilege. Meeting Catherine, our attentive hostess and custodian was amazing. Breakfast was fabulous with produce locally made. The evening we stayed we relaxed outside in the sunshine, our bikes were securely stored.

Great spot close to other amenities in town, but an idyllic quiet location to enjoy the natural sounds of birdsong and the rustling of leaves in the breeze next to the canal.

Catherine was the most wonderful host at this beautiful B&B with just 2 rooms. We arrived soaking wet and covered in mud after a long cycle from the ferry at Roscoff in poor weather. Catherine was ready with a hosepipe for the bikes, bags & my legs! The bikes were nice and secure in the shed, and Catherine offered to wash some of our clothes for us which was very helpful. Inside, we found a simple but elegantly furnished room with a wonderful view out to the canal. Importantly, the shower was hot and powerful! We visited over Easter weekend so not a lot was open, but we found the takeaway pizzeria about 2km was available. We cycled up there, turning down Catherine's kind offer to drive us! Once we got back, we joined Catherine at her dinner table and exchanged stories - including how she found the dog and several cats that share the house. The bed was comfortable and warm. The offered breakfast was simple (toast & jam) but welcome before another day of cycling, thankfully now with better weather...

“Beautiful peaceful stopover by the canal”

The beautiful house is right on the cycle route on the canal side. Very welcoming and friendly hostess who pays attention to every detail. We used Catherine’s kitchen to prepare our evening meal and she was very helpful in this. Lovely room, comfortable bed and very peaceful and quiet. So much care and attention with the excellent breakfast. Good cycle storage. We cannot recommend enough. Thank you

Perfectly situated for my cycling tour. We really enjoyed meeting Catherine, she indulged us when we tried to speak French, and we appreciated the care she put into each ingredient of breakfast.
