Amazing place with lots of potentials PRO: - the architecture of the place, living commitment to the respect for nature and environmental protection: all the houses and rooms are built around the jungle of the Bacalar laguna. The place is isolated from sound and light pollution and embeds you in the cover of the trees. Tip: it makes it easier to reach the place if you have an SUV-type of car. - the staff, Manu and Luz, is particularly welcoming and are happy to share their knowledge of the local culture around the Bacalar laguna and the Yucatan peninsula. Luz was particularly attentive to all our requests and was a great host to receive us. Manu has served us exquisite food with well treated vegetables (and fruits, and sufficient quantities for our whole family. - the rooms are very comfortable and had fans (one of them was being repaired in one of the rooms). The outdoor shower experience was great! CONS - unfortunately, the swarm of mosquitos impacted the extent to which we could enjoy all the great pros mentioned above! We've used many tricks to prevent getting stung but the Mexican mosquitos in Kapok are relentless. Small improvements in line with the ecological commitment of the Kapok spirit could probably help, like a fan in the dining area, for the guests and surely for the staff working in the same area all day long. It was so bad to the extent that we unfortunately had to cut our stay short due to this. It's a problem that needs to be addressed, else it takes away the opportunity to enjoy the place. You could not enjoy the amazing food to the full extent nor the lovely common area if you have to rush it in 10 minutes to run back to your room. We saw similar comments about the mosquitos but never imagined the excessive amount that there is. - although the cook offers a great variety and well-curated plant-based dishes and drinks, the prices are much higher compared to other places in the area.

Extremely cozy, and friendly Eco bio dynamic environment.the architecture is outstanding. The stuff is extremely friendly, you can take kayaks for free, the food is excellent, ambitious and creative. However, if you are a walrus bring snacks ;)

This is a one of a kind property in the middle of the jungle with direct access to the lagoon. Everything was so relaxing and peaceful. We loved our bungalow, especially the outdoor shower. Wish we could have stayed longer.

“A great quiet stay in the tropical jungle”

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Prepare to stay in the middle of the jungle in front of the lagoon in a serene setting. The chef is very creative and accommodating in his cooking (vegan only). Make sure to get a kayak and go explore the lagoon.

Immersed in the jungle, it's a unique experience. Bed, Rooms and hotel facilities are really well kept and have an amazing design.

Amazing hidden getway by Bacalar lagoon, cozy and comfortable appartments with mosquito nets. We absolute loved it, the host is super nice and very helpful, the whole atmosphere very relaxing. Cayaks are available for free, we loved watching the sunrise over the lagoon. Totalt recommended!

“Excellent stay! Lovely scenery and experience in the heart of the jungle”

The location is so remote and peaceful that it really rests your soul. The rooms are very comfortable and very eco friendly designed. The rooms are in the middle of the forest and just sleeping in them is like sleeping in the middle of the nature! It’s so soul reckoning. We also topped our stay with a temazcal activity. Wow! What an experience it was! I highly recommend it and you can top it off with a late night swim in the lake! We loved that part. We also met one of the owners who is a fascinating person (Lucas), what a soul! Food was amazing too and with a variety of vegan/vegetarian options. Although I am not really a vegetarian the food was to die for and prepared fresh from local produce everyday. For example, they made their own bread which we ate in the morning as an avocado toast. All the ingredients are pure and carefully selected. I was certainly sold into it.

“Relaxing vegan jungle stay”

Our top cabin had a real jungle feel but, due to excellent screendoors all around, with only an occasional mosquito. Because we could keep everything open, we didn't need airco or even a fan; we really enjoyed the relaxing jungle sounds and even a group of passing spider monkeys one morning! Also: great bed, fresh vegan meals and we were lucky to have the little dock all to ourselves. Extra bonus: the very friendly and cuddly cat Balam!

The rooms are big and nicely decorated. The staff is so welcoming and provides the best mosquito spray, i've ever used. The area is so jungle-style. You should definitely use the Kajaks to see the sunrise in the morning. The lake is so calm in the morning.

“The Best jungle experience!”

Tha Casita is simply perfect. You are perfectly immersed in the jungle but with all the comforts you may need. There are only few “rooms” so you will always have your privacy and spaces. The view of the lagoon from the sun deck is wonderful and you will be surrounded only by the sounds of the jungle. The staff and the chefs are amazing and they prepare great plant based food!

The whole ambiance was amazing. It's really a piece of paradise, hidden far away in the mangrove/jungle. You can watch beautiful stars at night and you can use the canoes to watch the sunrise and sunset on the water. Also you can take a refreshing swim in the beautiful lagune. The bathroom is outside but dont worry about insects because they have a good repellent system and it is nice to be one with nature. The hosts are very kind and the manager speaks perfect english as well! We let the curtains open in our cabin because it is amazing to watch the jungle at night while laying in your bed. You can leave the big windows open for a nice breeze at night without being bothered by animals. It was so quiet (except the jungle sounds ofcourse) so it was a little paradise for us. The food was really amazing, thank you chef Lucia!!

As great as the idea of place like Kapok is, the execution is disappointing. No privacy. No facilities to relax and enjoy. Far away from the beauty of Bacalar Lagoon. Crazy mosquitos. We left earlier than planned.

Staff super friendly, food was yummy (and vegan), the rooms spectacular thanks to their large window fronts to three sides and the lagoon just beautiful! It's all very new and clean. Plus we liked that their entire concept is very eco-friendly! Our recommendation for those seeking for relaxation in the jungle! 😌

“Good Jungle retreat”

Location is stunning. You will immerse yourself in the jungle right on the shore of the Laguna. Villas look amazing, they are clean and comfortable.

- location is magic, sunset is creazy beautiful, night sky with stars is a blast, access to the lake could not be more beautiful - food is great, it you are into healthy and new dishes/ingridients - rooms are nice, big bed, nicely decorated
