“Great room with lots of birds and frogs”

Nice, large room, with great breakfast. The frog garden was nice to explore, the staff showing us some frogs after sunset.

The room was very nice, comfy bed with practically new sheets, adecquate lighting, a cushioned sofa chair and a space to hang cloths. Internet was good. The bathroom very nice, a tempered glass for the shower, instant hot water, spacious.

“Charming stay with friendly host and staff”

We only stayed one night at Kakao as a rest stop over a long drive to La Fortuna. The owner is very friendly and helpful with information pf what is happening in the local area, restaurants etc. It is walking distance to many restaurants and shops and is situated amongst beautiful gardens with tropical flowers. The breakfast area is charming and I'm sure you would see lots of wildlife in drier weather (unfortunately we had relentless rain during our stay). The breakfast was fantastic! Good value to have all of this included!! The pancakes were delicious!! The rooms are very clean and well appointed. There is a seating area outside each room to enjoy the sounds of the forest.

“Pleasant stay, great views across to mountains and the garden was a bird paradise”

The location and garden of this property were excellent. Lots of birds visiting and even saw a sloth way up a tree. People were kind even though I don’t speak Spanish and they didn’t speak English. Angelo, young man who is son of caretaker speaks English and if he is there will be very eager to chat about birds - he is a font of all knowledge. Restaurant across the street is excellent

we loved the garden, we spent a lot of time in it. the room was spacious and comfortable. very well located and the staff and owner were really lovely and shared with us their love for the animals. we see they like to take care of the place, and out of lot of effort in it.

“Nice hotel to stay in Bijagua”

Very nice hotel in Bijagua. It’s well located being 4 minutes walking from the main road and 2 minutes walking from the best restaurant in town: Yeye. The personal is very nice and willing to give advices regarding the activities to do. I would strongly recommend doing the night tour to observe animals as the guide was very nice and we saw plenty!

Loved that we felt surrounded by nature & authenticity of traditional Costa Rica, with its ‘open to the outdoors’ trad breakfast area and warm hospitality. Huge bedroom. Very comfortable and bed too. Loved sitting outside our room on first floor veranda area amongst the trees and wildlife. We also were taken on a little tour in the garden when we arrived in the evening and saw a red eyed leaf frog.

“Friendly accommodation with an amazing garden full of ani”

Laura is very welcoming and gave us many tips for activities around the accommodation. For example, we visited a cacao farm and the national park Volcán Tenorio. Our room was pretty large, and well furnished. The clear highlight of our stay was the amazing garden, where we could find many of our favorite animals such as a sloth and several frogs! The breakfast was also very good. We can only recommend you to stay here!

“Relaxing simple structure, nearby nice attractions”

The calm area in town, the proximity to a new small family-run restaurant, the spacious rooms. The breakfast area is also welcomingly shabby-chic looking and the fruit portions generous. Great value for money. Charming, smiling and welcoming hosts.

Delicious breakfast in a beautiful setting. Absolutely amazing views sitting on the balcony drinking my coffee in the morning. Wonderful stay.

A beautiful small hotel in the "forest". Everything, especially, the breakfast area is surrounded by trees, plants, flowers. Amazing place. Breakfast was rich and tasty. The manager is extremely kind and speaks excellent English. Room was huge and WIFI was fast. They have private parking. Close to town and to a few restaurants.

Beautiful large room, rustic/vintage look with a comfortable bed. The lodge is cute and feels family friendly:) The staff were great, very welcoming! Good for our one night stay!

“An excellent stay near Rio Celeste”

Our stay at Kakao Lodge was lovely! The staff were exteremly welcoming and helpful, and the surroundings beautiful. They had a lovely garden full of plants and animals, and having breakfast with the tropical birds was magical. It is only a 20minute drive from Rio Celeste, so the location is great. Still in town, but quiet and personal.

Johnny was really lovely and helpful, he showed us around the garden to find frogs and wildlife! The breakfast in the garden was amazing, great food generously served and a beautiful show of birds every morning, including toucans. The bedroom we had upstairs was nice and clean, with air conditioning and hot shower
