“A lovely break in a cosy home”
We were self catering so the excellent kitchen facilities were much appreciated. Salt, oil, stock cubes ....all there. No instant coffee, sugar or egg cups so bring your own if you want boiled eggs or improvise with coffee cups and a little kitchen towel roll both supplied. Lots of different pans, microwave, toaster, fridge and a proper electric oven. Convenient for baker and small shops on foot but E Leclerc and Intermarche are close by car, Leclerc is better for fresh milk. Plates, glasses, bowls, mugs all there. Towels and tea towels in generous quantities and a very comfortable double bed. Bergues itself is fascinating with its town walls, moats and canals- I am not very mobile and I had a walking tour taking different parts of the town to experience including walls, fortifications, canals and water control systems each day. This area obviously changed hands a few times in the C14, C15 and C16 centuries. Town plans are available are available from the tourist office. We also travelled out to Hondschoote, Ghyvelde and Bray Dunes the latter an evacuation site during Dunkirk along with De Pannes in Belgium. When we arrived at the Maison there were cormorants fishing in the canal outside the door. Parking in Rue St Georges is convenient and free. We could hear the music chimes from the Le Beffroi but not loudly enough to disturb us at night..
