Loved everything about Carmen's place. Carmen and Marcel are wonderful hosts who really go the extra mile for their guests. The place is beautiful, very clean and generally super well taken care of. I don't think the pictures fully show how nice it really is. I felt welcomed and relaxed the second I got off the boat. On top of everything, Carmen is an amazing cook, so both breakfast and the family-style dinners were a real treat. I'm already looking forward to coming back 🙂

Great stay with Carmen, dinner all together - so nice to meet and talk to people from all over the world. And she’s a great cook.

I can’t say enough good things about Carmen! Her communication from the first moment of booking was outstanding. She was very responsive and helpful. She was booked whatever excursions we wanted and ensured we had safe boat drivers (some are drunk or high). She knows everything about the entire area and can give advice on excursions. She is super easygoing and goes above and beyond for all of her guests. She connects emotionally to her guests and will always be there when needed. She loves animals and so we all know that people like that must be good people! She is funny and entertaining. My sister and family who were staying elsewhere had some things go bad where they were staying. Carmen was on it! They weren’t even her guests, yet she stepped up immediately to help. She’s an incredible person with a huge heart! While staying here, I met repeat guests (5th time!). I was staying here alone but with the way she has her place setup with breakfast included and optional dinner (amazing fresh cooked dinners!), it is easy to meet the other travelers and feel part of a tiny community. Her husband catches fresh fish most days which is used for the tasty dinners. She is very creative with her meals and goes above and beyond to make her guests feel welcome. If you want an amazing experience with a wonderful host, stay at Carmen’s Pkace!

Highly recommended! A beautiful seaside apartment with a private harbor. You will definitely be pleased with Carmen’s warm welcome and helpfulness — she is always ready to assist or offer advice. I also recommend staying for dinner, as the food is excellent

“A fantastic and welcoming place in a wonderful setting.”

Staying at Carmen’s Pace is wonderful. You are felt welcome from the moment you arrive and Carmen and Marcel cannot be more helpful. Breakfasts are delicious, including a huge platter of fresh fruit, home made bread, omelettes and pancakes. We particularly enjoyed the evening meals where we all ate together. The food Carmen prepared was exceptional and the chat around the table lovely. Carmen helped us to organise great trips and any water taxis that we needed. We had a fantastic stay and were sad to leave.

Smart, clean rooms up in the rainforest, with beautiful views from the balcony. Carmen accommodated all our needs and helped us plan an amazing few days in Basti.

“Wonderful place”

Our stay at Carmen's Place was excellent. From the moment Carmen greeted us on the deck, we felt like we were at a friend's house – delicious dinners, excellent breakfasts, and engaging conversations shared on the beautiful terrace overlooking the sea – wonderful. Carmen was always there to help. The place is very clean and well-maintained, and the views are incredible. Old Bank and Wizard Beach are accessible via a local path, which was a great adventure for us. I recommend this place to everyone and hope to return someday.

“Wow”

Everything basically. Carmen, the host, runs more of a community than a bed and breakfast. Very cosy very nice details and she takes a lot of care of her guests! And she is a great cook. Staying for dinner is recommended.

“Good times at Carmen's place”

I had a wonderful stay at Carmen's place! She and Marcel are friendly outgoing hosts, and the guesthouse has an amazing location surrounded by the jungle facing the bay. Carmen took very good care of me as a solo traveller, suggesting destinations for day-trips and activities to me and catering to small personal needs as an extra-ration of sand fly-repellent or my daily early morning tea :-) Apart of excursions to Zapatillas and Red Frog Beach, I roamed around by kayak and SUP and Carmen also organised to go out as a group for dinner and to watch some live music, which was a lot of fun! Last but not least, she prepares great dinners with different dishes and provides a generous breakfast with local fruit, pancakes, bread, jam, and your choice of eggs. Would love to come back in the future !

Locality, amazing breakfests and dinners, friendly owners

We liked everything about this place, Carmen is a really big spirit, beautiful soul. Worth to mention: filtered water is provided, you also have beers, wines in the fridge and coconuts are available too. The organized tour was exceptional and Sunday night at the Bibi`s was an authentic experience.

“Hospitable, welcoming and comfortable stay on Isla Bastimentos”

Carmen’s place is between luscious jungle and a gentle bay by the sea. It has a dock where in you can sit and relax or even have breakfast. All the food is made by Carmen, and she accommodated my dietary restrictions perfectly. I really enjoyed falling asleep listening to the jungle sounds, and waking up to sun rising. Both Carmen and Marcel were excellent hosts, helping me out with anything I needed. I really enjoyed the stay especially the evening dinners with all the guests. Afterwards we would sit, drink and chat for hours.

Excellent location on the island. Easy to take a boat and access to others part of the island. Quiet and peaceful place to hear birds, monkeys, sea at night. Carmen and Marcel are great host. Delicious food cooked by Carmen. Really helpful and kind. Peaceful stay with a twist of magic at the sunset.

“Feeling home”

Carmen is very friendly and warm host. We stayed for 2 nights and in both we had dinners there with other guests and Carmen and Marcel. The food was delicious and it was like big family dinner. Carmen is very supportive with all the needs her guest have. The rooms are clean, with hot water, very comfortable beds and pillows.

The hosts of this bed&breakfast are amazing! Really nice personal touch, great food, and stories. Felt like being part of a temporary family... a really beautiful place and wonderful hosts. Recommend it! & Thank you so much!

“Bastimento island stay”

IHosts Carmen and Marcel are great people. Definitely went out of their way to make our stay special. Our room was bright and specious. No air conditioning but nice ocean breeze blowing through. Their backyard is the Bastamento jungle and the front is waterfront dock. We had free use of a great kayak to snorkel from.

“Wonderful ecolodge”

Wonderful little guesthouse with jungle hut. Simple clean rooms with sea view. Carmen is a great cook and everyone is eating together . Wonderful day trip to Zappadillo with dolphin encounters are highly raccomended!
