The host was absolutely lovely and made sure your stay was pleasant and easy, great location with the main road with everything you need at the bottom of the trail. Its very basic but for the price it's perfect

Lovely family-run hostel. Peaceful location yet easily walkable to restaurants, activities etc. Clean volcano water to drink. Solar powered electricity. Kitchen fine for cooking. Direct buses from the port twice a day stop on the main road nearby. Very large room. Terrace with hammocks, as well as tables and chairs, wonderful for relaxing on.

“Nice stay with positive vibes”

Staff is super helpful and kind! They helped with everything (hikes, scooter, laundry, snacks) and their attitude created very good atmosphere. Wonderful hospitality! They also cleaned the room and changed the linens and towels everyday, which hasn't been that usual in similar places based on my experience.

Odelba and her staff are extremely kind and warm people that really makes you feel at home. You are greeted with a drink and she helped us with booking scooters as soon as we arrived. The location is good and near some highlights on the island.

Small hotel with friendly owner and staff. Clean , comfortable, good Wifi , chill out space and situated close to the main road of Balgue . The owner organised a tour guide for maderas volcano hike and also arranged a taxi to pick us up to go to moyogalpa . Great spot !

“Fantastic hostel, recommended”

The staff here are so lovely! From the minute we arrived we were told “our house is your house”, they were always so warm and friendly with every interaction. The room was simple and rustic as expected, no issues. Mosquito net was handy as being in nature there are a few creepy crawlies around. In the communal area there was a shared kitchen, several hammocks and a bookshelf. The staff emptied the bathroom bin daily and turned down our room on day 3 and provided fresh towels which was nice. The location was great, a short walk from the main street of Balgue (accessible by bus). The petroglyph area was further up the same street which was handy.

Odelba was the one of the most friendly hosts we have had in our travels! She made us feel at home, her home is our home, and we had an amazing stay. It was great value for money, the room was nice with very good mosquito nets. The kitchen was good with good equipment to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner. Odelba was also helpful with recommendations and booking things to do on the island, and shops to buy food from. The location was also very good in Balgue.

Really lovely local staff (not volunteer-rude) Situated right on the water Nice hammocks provided Basic cooking facilities but hostel wasn’t crowded.

“Tranquil setting in the most beautiful island”

Odelba was so welcoming - “my casa is your casa” she said as she gave us a cool welcome drink. Beautiful setting, chill out on the hammocks, rooms are basic but good for the $$, a lovely natural spring 10 mins walk from the house. Odelba happily organised transport etc for us. We loved our time here!

Super friendly and helpful hosts, helped us organise a taxi to pick us up, cleaned our room everyday and gave advice about things to see and do around the island. Incredibly cheap - but it is basic! It's rural, and there are chickens that love to call from about 3am, so if that wakes you up - bring earplugs. Cold shower only (but in the heat that's generally fine). The location is excellent for Balgue, and you're near scooter/ATV hire and a few restaurants (recommend la Isla Bonita and Cafe Campestre). The outdoor area is comfortable with hammocks and rocking chairs and very peaceful. The mosquito nets are all intact/no holes beyond the netting. Spacious room. The kitchen looked clean but we didn't use it. We unfortunately didn't get a chance to try the breakfast either as the host had slipped and hurt herself - she was very apologetic! They do clean everyday but it is on the edge of the jungle and there are lots of bugs. There was a tarantula in the foyer space and the host's husband quickly removed it with no drama (with his spider glove on!!). A great place to stay very cheaply, as long as you're aware that it is basic, and that Ometepe in general is very buggy!

Very lovely host. Good location, close to restaurants. The common area is chill and nice. You can park your motorbike behind the locked gate.

“A good place to stay.”

The place has a nice garden full of tropical plants, and an open roofed space with chairs, tables and hammocks. The breakfast was the usual Nicaraguan gallo pinto (rice with black frijoles) with eggs and fried plantains. Tasty. I made my own coffee in the guest kitchen. There are some nice walks from the place to a natural pool, the nearby (1.5 km) Finca Magdalena, and along the lakeshore past Balgue.

“A quaint family run idyll with an amazing hostess”

This was easily one of the best hostels if have stayed at. The host family is extremly welcoming and organizes everything you could want (taxi, bikerental, kayaktour) at good prices. The room was cleaned every day and we were given fresh towels daily as well. The breakfast (can only recommend adding that) is delicious and filling. There was a hiccup with the communication via booking.com (it had overbooked the room and when we got there a solution was already provided. I cannot overstate how nice and generous the hostess Odelba and her family was. Jutst thank you for making our stay this wonderful!
