A rare gem

It felt like a home. Immediately upon arrival I felt like I was not just staying there, but living there! The garden, the architecture, the art elements, everything felt right and in complete harmony. I really appreciated the bicycle Shin-san gave me for the duration of my stay. It made exploring Arita so much more fun. Visiting Shin-san's gallery was a very nice personal touch, and as an art enthusiast, it made my stay even more special.

From the window you can see a small pond with koi carp — such a peaceful and beautiful view.

This is a very beautiful house run by a Japanese art master. Everything is thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail. From the window you can see a small pond with koi carp — such a peaceful and beautiful view. On a rainy day I really enjoyed drinking gyokuro tea while watching the raindrops fall into the pond and the koi hiding near the bridge. The host, Shin-san, kindly asked if I needed an umbrella when the rain started and lent me his for the time I stayed. I really appreciated this attention and care. The house had everything I needed, and the aesthetic of the place is wonderful. It’s very quiet and surrounded by nature, and I truly enjoyed my stay. Bicycles are available, but I personally found cycling in the mountainous area a bit difficult — it’s better if you’re used to riding before. On a sunny day I visited Okawachiyama Village and walked there through the mountains. It was challenging — about four hours one way with some almost rock-climbing sections — but the views were incredible. I also highly recommend the café Kasane nearby guest house, where you can try unique wagashi sweets and other food. Thank you for the opportunity to stay here!

One of the highlights of our trip through Kyushu.

What a wonderful place to stay - in the middle of the village, short walk to the sights, parking available. The studio had lovely artistic touches and was very comfortable with everything you need, and a lovely garden to look out onto. Host was very welcoming and friendly.

One of the loveliest places I’ve stayed in Japan. The garden was amazing, the futons comfortable and there are two friendly cats who immediately came to greet us after we checked in. Shin

Loved the location, the decor, and all the artwork! I wasn't there long enough to take advantage of everything that was available ( bikes, kitchen) but my stay was still amazing.

The owner was super welcoming and friendly! He even gave us a gift (a painting he made himself!) just before we departed. The Guest House itself was very unique and traditional. It was comfortable with heaters around the house to keep you warm, and a cute cat to roaming about.

The property is a separate house next to the host's house. It consists of a large Japanese-style bedroom, an equipped kitchen with a dining table, and a bathroom with a Western-style toilet, shower, and washing machine. The house was very clean and well-furnished. In the bedroom, there's an AC unit, and in the winter the host provides additional heating devices. The neighborhood is very quiet, so my stay was super comfortable. On top of that, the host is extremely nice and accommodating.

Lovely stay in cold February

We had a lovely stay in traditional japanese guest house with beautiful garden, perfect hosts and nice location. Shin welcomed us himself, gave us his picture as a present and a souvenir, explained all about Arita and sightseeing, suggested places for dinner and was very helpful. He arranged early check-in and stored our luggage next day while we explored surrounding area. You have the whole house for yourself with proper kitchen and washing machine. Note: the nearest combini (7-11 shop) is 27 mins by foot so bring food with you. Shin warned us about it in advanced and we were prepared.

Really enjoyed staying in a historical house!

Enjoyed staying at this guesthouse, it was convenient to walk around this part of town with lots of pottery shops. The person who met me at the check-in was really friendly too, she lent me her personal bicycle so that I could cycle further away the next day. The building is beautiful - it’s a historical building - an old worker’s lodging for a ceramics artist. The owner is also a ceramics artist but I didn’t get to meet him, saw the works instead at the gallery. One helpful point to note is that the area is very quiet at night after the shops are closed, but still very safe to walk around, I would recommend that you ask the guesthouse to help book the nearest Yakitori restaurant for dinner as not many places are open at night. There is also an Italian restaurant further down from the Yakitori that’s good too. Thanks for the stay!
