Overview
Situated in the heart of Arette, the hotel is close to the Béarn, the Basque Country and Spain and 45 minutes from Pau, 120 kms from Bayonne and 132 kms from Biarritz. The hotel de l'Ours offers standard rooms with a view of the village and superior rooms with a view of the garden. Many rooms were renovated in 2018 and the property has rooms that are suitable for guests with reduced mobility. A breakfast made with fresh ingredients is available every morning. Upon reservation, guests can also eat in the onsite restaurant, which uses local produce. In winter you can enjoy the mountains and skiing, snowshoeing and sledding. From spring to autumn, you can discover the region by hiking, cycling or relaxing in the countryside.

“Uncomfortable experience with credit card handling”
At check-in, I was asked to provide my physical credit card, and the staff wrote down the card number manually. According to the notice at the reception, this procedure is done as a “guarantee” for bookings made through Booking.com. They mentioned that they did not record the security code on the back, but I could not clearly see which parts of the card were copied. This left me with a sense of mistrust and discomfort. While I understand the need for guarantees, I believe there are safer and more transparent ways to handle credit card information.

Excellent location. The staff member was very friendly and could have done any more to help us. She was very helpful and assisted us in finding somewhere to eat that evening as the restaurant at the hotel is closed on Mondays. Would definitely stay there again

Good value for a hotel in a quiet village. The room was very spacious and the bed was super-comfortable. Greeting from the hostess was pleasant, and breakfast was very good.

It's pretty much the only hotel in the area, so if you're cycling the Raid Pyreneen, it's a good base. The breakfast was tasty and self-serve so you could eat a generous portion and it's nice that check-in is until 21:00 (which is longer than most hotels). There is also a shed to store your bike.
