“Great hotel in the center of Tana”

The rooms were recently renovated and are modern, spacious and with all the needed amenities. The people at the hotel were friendly and ready to help. The facilities such as SPA and GYM are superb.

A very interesting hotel to be in, with a great restaurant, bakery/patisserie to sit for coffee and close to other restaurants. The room furnishings in the suite that we were in were very nice. Good customer service in general. Safe and convenient.

Service from the staff was good, really good, as compared to other hotels visited in Tana, and i loved the food and bakery in front.

Once the Grande Dame of hotels in Antananrivo, the hotel has seen its better days. I stayed here with my crew in 2004-2005 on three occasions. It was not bad. Now, not very good. First, since I requested a standard room, i was put into the old wing in a room facing the street. Access to the floor is at the very end of the hallway, past construction and up stairs covered with an old, threadbare carpet badly in need of replacement. The hallway to my room...the last, at the end...was dated and depressing. The room however was nice. Clean, seemingly freshly painted. It was on the street and could be noisy when the window was opened for fresh air. Weather was such that I didn't need the A/C...an open window was sufficient. The mattress was adequate. The bathroom had a toilet slotted between the wall and shower enclosure...let's hope you are thin if you want a proper "reach around" to wipe because their "just ain't enough. room" to get back there. What really bugged me was the breakfast. Hadn't change one bit in 20 years...same tasteless scrambled eggs, cheese, ham slices, and veggie platter brought out of the fridge day after day...lightly rancid butter. One day had some kind sausage that wasn't bad...and the same choice of breads. Same, same, same, boring faire day after day. Bring some creativity now and again. Weak coffee. Finally, unless you have business in central Tana, there really isn't much of a reason to be in central Tana. Taking a walk is tedious with the constant presence of beggars. It is near the Irish Pub but even here, I would use a cab for the few block walk day or night to avoid the beggars and uncertainties. Sorry...as much as I recognize the place the Colbert has in Tana's hospitality history, and the fact that it is locally owned and in that regard, deserves to be supported, I just can't stay here anymore.
