“Everything was perfect!”

Villa Nicola is an absolute treasure! It is a superbly kept and presented house that exudes nineteenth century charm and mystique. From the moment Werner opened the door to us, it was obvious that running this beautiful old villa is a labour of love for him, and that radiated out into every part of our stay. Our room was thoughtfully and tastefully decorated (with an Eames chair, no less!) and it made for a wonderful stay in Amsterdam. Breakfast was superb - the widest choice we have ever been offered in a B&B - with lots of fresh fruit, meats, cheeses (you’ll love the cheeses) as well as the more traditional toast, croissants, pastries, eggs, yoghurts and cereals. Along with the tea and coffee making facilities, we found lovely displays of fresh flowers, plus mini stroopwaffels and chocolates left in our room. The bathroom was fresh and modern and the whole ambience was one of old world charm fused with modern luxury, which may sound clichéd but Werner has a background in fashion and it shows! Factor in the friendliest dog in the Netherlands and you have a recipe for the most charming and inspiring stay you could possibly wish for. And that’s why we do not recommend you stay at the Villa Nicola - because we love it so much, we want to keep it for ourselves!

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Nicola, a beautiful canal house in an ideal location for exploring Amsterdam. Werner is an exceptional host who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and gave us lots of brilliant recommendations for local restaurants, bars and museums. His breakfast spreads are truly excellent and his dog Kees is a delight!

Villa Nicola is perfectly located in a smart, quiet residential area on a canal lined with mature trees on the edge of central Amsterdam. The house dates from 1890s and retains so many beautiful original features you feel immersed in history. The decor is second to none, reflecting Werner, our host’s, impeccable taste for the finer things in life. From high thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen to fresh flowers throughout the house to a breakfast experience more than meal, Werner’s generosity in providing the highest quality for his guests is clear. This is a truly special property with a truly special, warm host.

The place is extremely charming (with candles, ambience music and a gorgeous decor), the breakfast is delicious (prepared by him) and I could say he became a friend! Everything was amazing. The host went above and beyond in every way imaginable. Breakfast, bathroom, amenities were fantastic. One can easily spend the same (or more$) for a mediocre room in a chain hotel. But this was 100x better. A very pleasant stay for 2 nights. I would recommend this place to any of my friends and family.
