This is a very beautiful hotel with lovely decor and fantastic facilities. The staff were lovely and the bed was incredibly comfortable! The hotel was excellent value for money.. we’ve stayed in similar places elsewhere and paid 3 times as much for the same level of comfort! The hotel is a 1 mile out of town up a BIG hill but after three walks, it got easier to walk up it!

Beautifully restored home, amazing attention to detail. Comfortable rooms. Bed linen and towels very good quality. Lovely view of the region. Exceptionally clean. Friendly hostesses. Each room has a small fridge. The balcony is ideal for a quiet sunset drink. Close to the town of Amarante but you do need a car, approximately a 5-7minute drive to town. Great base for day trips in the area. Amazing breakfast.

The best breakfast that we had on our 21 days trip throughout Portugal. The bed was super big and comfortable In the fridge water and a bottle of wine with sweets to welcome you!

This is a perfect place to visit Amarante and surroundings. The view from the main balcony, the silence, the friendliness of the staff, the breakfast with homemade cakes and marmalades. It is evident that the hotel was renovated but they maintained the typical decoration, which makes the place really cozy. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this place to anyone visiting the region.

“A great place to stay near Amarante!”

We chose the Casa do Fontao because of its proximity to Amarante and availability of parking but it turned out to be one of our favourite stays! Check-in was a breeze. There is no reception but we received very clear instructions on how to get in. Our room was beautiful and had a balcony with great views. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and sitting on the terrace at sunset. The breakfast provided was excellent and a staff member was there to offer scrambled eggs served with a smile. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer. It was like a retreat from the outside world.

A real gem , a traditional mansion furnished with period furniture, huge room with Juliet balcony , very large comfortable bed and the attention to detail was amazing , a good choice for breakfast .

Furniture throughout the house is very grand. My room (which had an internal bathroom) was quite large. There were lots of light breakfast options and the woman who looked after the breakfast was very sweet. The host was responsive with any questions I had. There is a great local (cash only) restaurant called O Ministro 6 min away that served one of my favorite meals while in Portugal and the waiter was incredibly nice.

Our recent stay at this charming hotel was truly enchanting. From the moment we arrived, the warm and attentive hostess — a remarkable presence in the best way — set the tone for a memorable visit. The cosy, character-filled atmosphere felt more like a beloved home than a hotel, with thoughtful details and serene common areas. If you’re looking for comfort, personality, and genuine hospitality, this is the place. We left refreshed, grateful, and eager to return.
