Amazing experience staying with Jose Luis and Pilar. Jose Luis helped to organise us the boat to Amantaní and Pilar met us at the pier. Pilar cooked us very tasty lunch, dinner and breakfast. It was really nice to chat with both hosts, they both speak English. Overall hosts are amazing people, definitely a highlight of our trip. Room was really comfortable, lots of furniture, power sockets. Bathroom was pretty big with very hot water.

The family of Jose Luis and Pilar is the best stay you can go for when in Amantani. Listen to me, gift yourself a couple of nights here and avoid rushed tours in turistic traps. The house is amazing, you have all the comforts you need included hot shower and a very warm and comfortable bed, Jose Luis will give you plenty of advices about the island and where to go, Pilar is a super cook (we had some of the best meals in Peru here), they involve you in family activity (we cook with them and play one spending an amazing evening talking together next to the fire) and you really get to experience the real Peru of this area. If you do not know how to reach amantani with public transport from land just ask Jose Luis, and if you think it is too complex, you can buy a tour and use jt for the transportation only , and for the way back JL can arrange it for you also. Personal advice: avoid rush tours where you do amantani and the morning after Taquile, there is zero added value for what they told us and on Taquile is only about fake show for tourists. Instead, give yourself the time to stay with this family, chill and enjoy the view of the lake from the window. Amazing.

Fantastic place to stay. We initially booked one night but extended for another as we felt it would be such a pity to stay so short on the island, which is beautiful and quiet. The hosts were simply amazing. We had delicious meals, danced wearing local clothes and learnt a lot about local lifestyle. I would love to come back! Gracias and all the best to the family!

“The best experience of our Peru trip”

Where to start… we had one of the most memorable stays ever with Jose Luis and Pilar. They are such kind, welcoming and warm people, who invite you into their home like it’s second nature to them. We loved sharing meals with them, playing cards, seeing and learning about the island, and laughing and chatting with them every day over the course of three days. Pilar even took us out to harvest some of the vegetables for lunch. Their home is situated in the perfect spot overlooking Lake Titicaca, only a few minutes’ walk from the town square should you need any supplies. The food was incredible, the stay was incredible, but most of all it’s their genuine hospitality that made our stay what it was. Do not hesitate to book a stay here - but please stay longer than one night to get the full experience. We did three nights and would have loved to have stayed longer.

An amazing stay at an island with natural beauty. The hosts Jose Luis and Pilar were so genuinely nice! Pilar's laughter and stories where the best! Our room was cozy and very clean with a huge bathroom. All the meals where delicious and organic, like fresh trout and sweet potatos, vegetable soups and a great breakfast. All and all, we should have stayed for more days!!!

José Luis was brilliant, organised our boat transfers from Puno, and picked us up from the port as soon as we arrived (on foot, there are no cars on the island!). As soon as we arrived we felt like part of the family. They made us feel so welcome at all times! José Luis explained the history and way of life of the island to us and Pilar made us amazing home-cooked meals with natural organic ingredients, taught us some Spanish and Quechua, and even dressed us in their own traditional clothes and took us to a local dance! We were even allowed to help with the cooking sometimes, and learned some of the secrets of the island’s cuisine. We were incredibly well taken care of, so much so that we were almost a bit emotional leaving! The island and the lake are also amazing natural resources, and are stunning to walk around and swim in. I would 100% recommend the hikes to Pachamama and Pachatata. Be sure to bring enough cash to the island, because it seemed difficult/impossible to access any ATM or cash exchange facilities once you leave Puno, and the island does almost exclusively operate on a cash basis! Overall, just a wonderful experience with a truly lovely family. I would 100% recommend this to absolutely anyone!

Great hospitality of the family, very open approach, as they were inviting us to joint activities as cooking. Delicious food and very good English of Jose Luis, and very harming personality of his wife, which was huge advantage of this stay.

After a long day/night of travel, we couldn't be happier when we arrived at Tikawasi Homestay. Firstly the room and view was beautiful. Clean, spacious and comfortable. And then within 15 minutes Pilar had prepared an amazing meal with the best soup we had ever tasted. We spent two wonderful days in Amantani, hosted by an amazing local family. The house is cozy and comfortable, with very soft beds and hot water — a true luxury on the island! José Luis and Pilar made us feel at home from the very first moment. They are incredibly kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. A special mention goes to Pilar, who is a fantastic cook — every meal she prepared was delicious and full of love. Jośe and his family are truly the warmest and kindest people. They welcomed us into their kitchen for (yum) meals and were interested in our life back home as well as telling us about theirs. “A perfect stay on a beautiful island!”

It was an incredible stay on beautiful Amantani Island. Jose Luis and Pilar were the most wonderful hosts. The place is very well kept, clean and comfortable. Pilars food is so delicious and the place has a wonderful homely atmosphere. They were both very kind with the requests I had to explore the island and see local crafts. I can't recommend a stay here enough, thank you so much Pilar and Jose Luis.

We had an absolutely fantastic time in José Luis and Pillar's beautiful homestay and would definitely recommend it! The homestay itself is great, with very comfortable beds and a top view from the terrace. But what made our stay fantastic was our hosts, who organised us a tour of Lake Titicaca and then welcomed us so warmly into their homes as if we were family. A particular highlight was the lunch and dinner that we ate together where we were properly able to exchange stories, and also eat Pillar's incredibly tasty trout!

This was probably my favourite stay in all of my travels across Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. I had a really special stay, dare I say a spiritual experience on the 8th of the 8th. Communication with Jose Louis and family was great from beginning to end, there were enough activities offered to make the most of the time, with also opportunities for peaceful solo time. Pilan’s cooking is incredible. Highlights were the sunset from the mountain, joining in the community dancing and fire ceremonies in the plaza and just the general chats with the family around the dinner table with the other guests. I felt so welcomed, warm and at ease - this was my home away from home for a night, I wish I could’ve stayed longer. It takes special kind of people to make you feel this was so thank you Jose Louis and Pilan and family for welcoming us to your beautiful home.
