The location of this hostel is excellent and I had a comfortable and relaxing stay in Aki whilst walking the Shikoku Pilgrimage and would highly recommend this accomodation. The hostel is clean and I appreciated the traditional design and style and the dinner recommendations were appreciated.

“A beautiful setting but no soundproofing”
It is a really beautiful building, with gorgeous furnishings. Very clean and well-managed. The staff were very kind and helpful, and did everything they could to make our visit comfortable - they even let us check in early. The kitchen was well-equipped.

Full Japanese traditional apartment at a very decent price, with both beds and futons available. Convenient location, near to the station and most restaurants. The common room also has a very nice atmosphere, with all necessary amenities available.

“The perfect base for exploring Aki and its surrounds”
I'm not sure to describe just how much I enjoyed my stay here. Yes this is a ryokan and it is very traditional and yes you share bathroom facilities and sleep on tatami mats. I didn't interact to much with many of the other guests, most of whom seemed to be on the pilgrim trail, however hanging out at the bar each night I drank sake and cocktails with locals, made new friends, shared cheesecake and got to create some truly wonderful memories. Aki is a great town to visit and staying at Kochi-no-ya was an excellent base for exploring the surrounding areas. Azumi and her husband are delightful hosts and she has fantastic staff helping run the show. Parking was a breeze and honestly writing this review I want to book flights back immediately.

Thanks to the staff I had the best time in Aki! They give you great recommendations for the area and even considered my interests a lot! You can hear everything inside of the house, but I could sleep very well without earplugs, because cars are getting less at night (I had the room to the street) and everyone was quiet after 22:30.

“Great house and fantastic hosts”
The staff were extremely friendly and we had a great chat with both of the people who helped us out. We really liked staying in a traditional Japanese house - we got a chance to see what they are like, which was interesting. There was space for our bikes out the back and there was a dryer available (just as well because we were very wet!).
