Overview
With a peaceful, rural location, just 20 minutes from the historic university city of Oxford and just 10 minutes from Abingdon, the hotel is rich in original character and dates to the 19th Century. Situated in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside, the Dog House Hotel has a traditional bar, with an original wood-beamed ceiling, a roaring fire and a patio. Food is available in the bar and in the restaurant and conservatory. The name of the hotel has an unusual origin. Traditionally, the University of Oxford allowed their students to stable horses, but not the dogs. With nowhere else to house the animals, the proprietor of the local inn offered an invaluable dog-sitting service and the venue became known as the Dog House. Today, there are 20 comfortable en suite rooms, including 2 feature rooms. Each room has a TV and tea/coffee making facilities.

“Good for the money and handy is playing golf at Frilford Heath”
Room was fine, a bit tired but it had what was needed for the price, simialr for the bathroom. Staff all very pleasant and the pub downstairs was good although from a food perspective we only had breakfast which was fine.

Friendly staff hotel in very quiet location. Old style hotel somethings need of replacement like noisy fan in bathroom. Sounds like First Freat Western coming through. However would stay here again made very welcome.

“Home from home, our accommodation of choice when visiting relatives.”
The welcoming and accommodating team of staff led by Steve, this is our 5th visit this year and becoming our second home with our favourite room! We have eaten here many times over the past year and have never been disappointed. The breakfasts are particularly appreciated as they keep us going throughout the day.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The menus were clear and helpful (we had a party of 5, 3 gluten free!) . There was even a child's GF menu 🙂. The garden swing was also most welcome.

“Good value for a night or two”
The bed looked new and was comfortable which is what you want . The food at the pub was good and reasonably priced and the breakfast was excellent and well cooked .
